@Sheila-kr8jr
@Sheila-kr8jr 2 жыл бұрын
I'd think you could just leave half of that last long seam (where you put the halves of the tree skirt together) open, then you wouldn't need to cut and bind the opening. You could also make a straight cut across the tops of all the panels, and have a hexagonal opening instead of a circular one. If you did that before quilting you wouldn't need to bind at all, you could put loops and buttons, or ties, or snaps along the long opening (one right at the top where the edges of the hexagonal opening will be) to keep it closed once you got it around the tree.

I have never machine quilted... we made our patchwork tops and then just used an old blanket or made another patchwork top for the backing, and then just yarn tied to keep things in place once the quilt edges were sewn together. The reason I say this is that I have a question, could you make your circle cut and leave the one seam undone instead of sewing it all together and then cutting the quilted pattern? Anyway it is a beautiful pattern. I always enjoy watching Misty and everyone else at MSQC!

Hi Misty, I noticed when you was stitching, you put the long strips on top of your base. Is there a reason or is it personal preference? The reason I’m asking is sometimes long things can turn out wavy and didn’t know if that eliminated that and helped it lay flat? I hope that makes sense. There are just tricks of the trade that I’m still learning. Thank you and this is a really cute fabric line and project. Have a beautiful day.
@sandybruce9092
@sandybruce9092 2 жыл бұрын
Wavy or that “hump” in the middle is caused by the long ruler moving when cutting strips. There are many ways to help avoid this happening (happens to me, too) but try putting a small weight at the far end of the long ruler (Donna Jordan does this) and it really works keeping that far end from slipping. I just went to Target and bought a 2-pound hand weight for only a few dollars.

I am very confused about using the 30 degree mark on my long ruler for cutting the ends off the newly sewn strips. My ruler also has the various angles marked (30, 45, 60 degrees). I have watched this part of the video many times and cannot understand the method Misty uses. I wound up just using my 60 degree triangle to cut the edges and keep the angle correct. The pattern just recommends keeping the 60 degree angle on the end cuts. Maybe my ruler is that much different than Misty's. Anybody else have this problem? Thanks! P.S. I am an experienced quilter. I think that's why I'm surprised I can't "get" this method.

If you use a single hole plate instead of a wide one it will help a lot. A single hole plate is for straight stitching only but it is very helpful as it prevents the fabric from sinking into the hole.

Or you can use a smaller mat that you can turn easily. I don't like rotating mats, as they tend to move on me when I'm not expecting them to, but a non rotating, 12x18 mat can be turned easily enough. Anything is better than accidentally cutting yourself.

Some of her projects just need a bigger workspace for cutting and pressing! I don’t know why this series is so stuck on staying in the chair and having very little pressing area! But lovely projects and Misty is a great instructor even if we rarely see the finished project 😉
