Make an Easy Joule Thief Circuit | Soldering for Beginners

I made a Joule Thief Circuit. If you're new to soldering, this is a good practice circuit to build as a soldering project for beginners. This project is a great way to learn soldering for beginners.

Thanks! It's a ferrous core. I don't know much more about the material than that. I think you should even use a nail or a bolt.

I've finally been able to make the joule thief by a different schematic where two of the leads from the wound toroid are fused together into one, which then goes to the positive rail. I'm having trouble figuring out how the alternative approach shown here is the same circuit.

Awesome video! Exactly what I needed. Can I use a Toroid Core Common Mode Inductor Choke in the board or is that different than the toroid inductor you make in the beginning of the video? Is a choke the same I guess is my question.

That's a really good question. I haven't tried, but I think that should work.

Is the yellow stuff you are using during soldering rosen? The type I use is a very dark brown and has more of a syrupy consistency.

It's rosen based flux, but it's not pure rosen. I have some of the rosen you're talking about, and it works great.

Seems like I could use this properly tuned to fool my RV charger into thinking the battery is floating higher than it is. Or fool a charger into charging LifePO4 when it’s made for Li-ion.

That's a valid question. The point is to show how to build a joule thief. A joule thief is a simple circuit to boost voltage. It's also a good project for someone that's beginning/learning to make electronics.

Yes, it is a type of voltage booster. I think it can be modified to boost to a specific voltage.

This design is mainly for educational purposes. But you can use it if you need to boost a DC voltage, like lighting up an LED with a AA battery.

Please, learn how to solder, if you use Rosen Core solder you DONT need the damn FLUX.
