I'd say ain't is common enough over here. Australian's seem to take any chance they can to mutilate words down as much as possible. "Dunno" why stuff like McDonald's becomes Maccas though.

I don't have enough good things to say about this video. One tip you gave that I have been using recently was just looking at the world through the lens of miniature painting. Out on some dirt road behind a junkyard taking pictures of some gnarly rust between two cars that a tree had fallen on and smashed together. Guy from the junkyard thinks I'm taking the pictures because one of the cars was "classic." I told him, "Nope. Just the moss growing out of the rust caught my eye, might use it for a mini." What I assume was his little brother punches him on the arm and says, See! It was only then I noticed that the bottom car was a Chevelle.

Great idea recommending getting outside! I've been an 'outdoorsy type' since forever, but adding miniatures to my life again has really filled a little void i was unaware existed. 😂 It's really great to return to the hobby now i'm in my thirties, and approach things with more knowledge. I was about twelve last time i bought miniatures. Haa! Best wishes from UK. 🤝👍

Usually wise to oven dry natural materials for a bit before using them. Just need to pop 'em in at 250 for 20-30 mins, get some of the moisture of out them that might cause paint peeling later, and kill off any little critters that'd promote mold or other probs.

Nice demo. The part that always stops me from doing super-fancy bases like this, with lots of organic material, though, is I'm not sure how to reliably attach the figure to the finished base. I'm used to attaching the figure's feet directly to the plastic of the base, and then adding texture around the feet (usually with Uncle Atom's super-glue-baking-soda-kitty-litter plan). I'm always afraid that if I glue the feet to bark, moss, or even cork, eventually it's going to pull off on the game table. Love to see you follow this video up with one in which you show how you attach figures reliably to these bases, so that they can be used in a miniatures game with confidence.

An added benefit of foraging for basing materials is that it's super easy to add adjacent hobbies like taxonomy and botany.
