Nested Circle Dies (any brand)
Cardstock scraps in rainbow colors
White cardstock for stamping
Blending brush
*Blue ink for using with the blending brush, I use Broken China distress Oxide but you can use whatever blue ink you have.
Cloud cut-out (Make 2, noe to use as a stencil and one for your card) You can hand cut or die cut.
Directions:
Cut a sheet of heavy white cardstock in half so you have two A2 cards.
Arrange your cardstock scraps in rainbow order and gather your circle dies. Take the two largest ones and cut a ring rom red. Then use the smaller two for red plus the next size down to cut an orange ring, and continue in this manner making smaller rings as you go.
Adhere all of the concentric rings inside each other (inlay) on white and use the larges and smallest circle die to cut out the combined shape and then cut that in half and you will have two rainbows. Save the inside circles for a leftover card.
Use a blending brush, blue ink and a cloud stencil to ink the back of the card base. *You can make 2 rainbow cards as you have 2 rainbows!
Adhere rainbow and cloud cut out to card.
Stamp Happy Birthday over the sky area. I used several shades of memento dew drop ink pads to create the rainbow sentiment. *testout this technique on a scrap of white cardstock and save the test for the leftover card!
Stamp birds in sky with black. Stamp You're Amazing on a white scrap and notch the ends, mat on black and adhere over clouds.
Embellish with epoxy circles if desired. *Stamp clouds and balloons on inside of card if desired.
For Card #2 Arrange the leftover circles on a white card base and glue a “happy birthday” stamped strip on top and embellish with epoxy dots. On the inside of the card adhere a note with reuse instructions and stamping.

Brilliant idea - why did I never think of that? Good thing I never purchased a set of rainbow dies - I would be kicking myself now. When I make a card for my immediate family, I sometimes write the message on a sticky note inside the card and then they can remove it and regift it. It is a card and a gift for them. Another thought--I do have a rainbow die that is in strips, but to get all the colors of the rainbow, I would have to cut the whole rainbow out of each color, which would waste the paper because the others would be out of order. I need to go look at that die to refresh my memory of it. I never used it. If it's how I recall it, it would be wasteful, while using the circle dies wouldn't be and you'd get two rainbows out of one die cut from each color.

Great idea! I had to try this as soon as I saw it last night. I was bummed my dies only had 6 sizes in the set. I ended up using a solid purple middle, cutting my circles in half, then using a 1 inch punch to cut the purple rings. Worked great. Thanks so much for sharing!

When I watch your videos like this, it reminds me of the old videos I used to watch of yours. I liked how creative you were and how you would find other ways to do things rather than buy what everybody else is using. One of the ways that I have made cards recyclable, is to use four corners, like picture corners, to hold my paper that has the written sentiment for inside the card. An extra blank paper can be put behind the one that is written on for the recipient to be able to use for regifting the card. I have never have done this, but I thought it would be neat to see how many times a card can get passed around by having the person who gets the card to sign their name and date behind the sentiment page. This way each new recipient can see who all have had their card before them. Or maybe be able to track the card some how like money that has been stamped with a website and number.

Great idea with the layering circles. You just solved my want of rainbow die. I have nesting circles! Saved me $30+ bucks! I also love the card idea to pass it along. Do you add an A2 blank envelope so they can resend it on?

So now where is the "Love" button??? What a wonderful idea, Lindsay! I don't know why I never thought of this. :P I love that there is no waste. I've often cringed at people using "rainbow" dies, since they cut the whole rainbow out of the cardstock every time, so you basically have to cut 6-7 pieces to get a full rainbow. Unless you are one who enjoys mixing & matching rainbow colors, you waste all that cardstock. I really like the idea of using nesting circle dies, something I would think most of us would have, and that are easy to come by. Lindsay, you are brilliant! I also like the idea of "recycling" cards, though what would the recipient do for an envelope for the second time on and beyond? I've often wondered that. If s/he is a card maker, obviously s/he would have envelopes available. But what to do for a non-card maker? The frugal part of me doesn't want to include an envelope, in case the recipient DOES want to keep the card. LOL What a conundrum! Anyway, thank you for sharing this, and have an awesome day! :)
