Do not shop there because their fragrance oil is way too expensive.
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
@@tiffanygrimsely14 Lol. Hey Tiffany.... FO prices have a wide range (just like FO quality). Yes.. SOME of their oils are more expensive and some are not at all. They have oils around $20 per pound just like everyone else. But they also have some that are like $40+ due to the complexity or the ingredients. Most companies make oils based on a price range. This will mean some are good and some not so good. In this case they choose oils they are happy with and whatever that price is.... it is. Which means high quality oils across the board (some more pricey than others). Also, many makers are looking for the highest quality anyway, particularly if running a luxury line so they intentionally are looking for the higher range anyway. Something different for everyone. But I definitely wouldn't 't say NOT to shop there. More than anything though, just sharing my feedback and having fun making candles with you all. :)

I checked out her site. Thank you. Question, what is meant by Top Note Middle note and bottom note in the description along with other scent? I've seen this in other people's notes before with a fragrance I don't know quite what that means is that a mixture.
@BlackTieBarn2 жыл бұрын
Notes is just a term that describes fragrance in general (not just candles necessarily). Fragrance oils are comprised of different scent notes throughout. Top notes are the notes you often pick up first but more volatile. Base notes are the foundation of the scent. This is the prominent part of the scent that everything else is based upon. Middle notes help bring everything together. Often help to soften more intent scents like lemon or sometimes help to boost other scents that are normally soft. They all work together to make up a fragrance oil
@jamesjustice8592 жыл бұрын
So I should only look at the notes when picking a fragrance direction I don't add the notes to make the fragrance, correct?
@BlackTieBarn2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesjustice859 Hey James, I am not quire sure I understand what you are asking. Notes are simply the ingredients and components of a fragrance oil. You can get a rough idea sometimes based off the notes as to what something might smell like. But you really cant know for sure without smelling the fragrance oil yourself. Or... someone created a very good and vivid description. All notes working together differently to make unique fragrances. Many people just like the notes listed (some places may require it, I am not sure). But there is no real way to know what a scent is going to smell like purely from the note profile. One simple note change can make the entire fragrance smell different from a similar one. As far as adding notes to make a fragrance... I am not sure what you mean. You add fragrance oils to your wax to make candles. Notes are just part of that fragrance oil. Like water and oxygen in H2O I guess.
@jamesjustice8592 жыл бұрын
@@BlackTieBarn That answers my question thank you. Talking just fragrance I was confirming the notes to be the mixture of oils to make the new fragrance. Thank you. You have been a great help to me in learning and starting my candle and melt business this coming year.

When you add the FO, do you subtract it from the total amount of wax? For example, for a total of 12 oz and 9% it’ll be 11oz wax and 1oz FO?
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
Great question! So... honestly, either is fine and they are very close to the same amounts. My advice would be to just stay consistent with your method. I prefer the method you mentioned because I know the total amount of "fill" I want. I know the total so I divide that by 1 × the percentage of FO. Example you mentioned would be... I need 24oz total for 4 candles at a 9% FO load. 24 ÷ 1.09 = 22 (wax amount) 24 - 22 = 2 (FO amount) It's just preference but I find that more practical... useful. :)

I constantly reuse the same 30 jars or so as testers but I also clean them out very well between batches. And mayo is awesome in my opinion 🙃
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
Just to know how it will burn for consistency, I use UV Inhibitor if I ever might use color as part of that jar/fo/wax combo. If will never color it, then I don't. Testers.... I reuse for tester when I get around to cleaning them out. I have over 1500 testers still boxed up waiting Tobe cleaned snd repurposed. Lol
@MushroomAngel3 жыл бұрын
Holy cannoli! Time to hire staff! 🙃 So, you don’t use uv inhibitor even if a fragrance contains vanillan or do you just avoid those fragrances altogether? I use uv inhibitor in every batch I make and I’m wondering now if I shouldn’t unless I use dye or a fragrance with vanillan. I’m kind of confused on this.
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
@@MushroomAngel I use it most of the time yes. But, UV inhibitor doesn't really help with discoloration caused by vanillin. Its purpose to help with fading caused by UV light. I like it. It isn't selling as well as I hoped. Thee name is intriguing but peppermint is very polarizing. So you either want it.... or you don't. Lol

Ha. Thanks Susan. I have a couple people that instantly give it thumbs down PM nearly every Video. I know who one of them is. It's okay. Doesn't bother me. Let haters hate. 🤣

Very pricey fragrance oil
@BlackTieBarn3 жыл бұрын
yeah, some of them are. Some aren't. Prices have a range so do quality so I like to try them all. It is very evident these are exceptional quality and I can use less. At least based on my experience so far. Where i would normally use 10%, 8 seems plenty. But, I have 57 more to test. Ha!

Have you ever tried midwest fragrance company? My wife and I are in the beginning stages of our candle company and that is the first place we bought our fragrances from. Though we haven't tried any others for a comparison yet, I'd have to say that I enjoy their fragrances oils. We do plan on sending you some of our products in the very near future for a review. We love your channel, keep up the good work

@@jaysoncoppieters8075 I have not. They are a fairly new company but I have heard positive things so far. I'd certainly be interested in trying them. Hoping they contact me at some point. I don't personally like to reach out and ask.... as I don't want to presume. So I generally, wait until suppliers contact me. :)
