As a Soft Natural I agree with all. For me is important to wear no or a very natural foundation. With a full coverage I look unnatural and not me. I can‘t wear an defined wing on my eyes, just kajal. When I wear red lips, they look better like the french Make-up, not with a countour, just dab the lipstick. The „No Make-up Make-up“ or soft smokey eyes works the best everyday. And Ialways use a blush for freshness.
@icewarriorr3 жыл бұрын
gosh you’re so true about the foundation. it doesn’t help that i have issues with acne, hence i had to try full coverage, but Jesus, it looked so separate on me to the point i could actually tolerate going out barefaced than with that thing! i always thought i would’ve dabbed too much foundation on my face every other time, but i didn’t. i just don’t work for me, i learned it the hard way, and i ended up with precious bottles of liquids and BBs i don’t wanna touch anymore. nowadays i just go with an oil control powder and im never looking back.

as a soft natural I prefer 'natural' makeup on me, harsh lines or very colorful eye makeups didn't go well with my look, I always blend well my eyeshadow, blush and lipstick, because it just looks better on me. I also don't wear lipsticks very often, I prefer li balm and accent on eyes, especially lashes. and the most important part for me (besides lashes) is doing my brows, they must be natural but also well shaped, pointed and overdrawn(I prefer them that way, it fits my face and make it smaller, better)
@Haghenveien5 жыл бұрын
I'm a Soft Natural (although with some Natural influence, but mostly on my body, not on my face) and for me what works for makeup is keeping everything soft. For example, pencil or eyeshadow for eyeliner works better for me than liquid. Satins better than full metallics. I love colourful makeup, and I can use whatever colour, but it's better for me to keep it the lighter side only using dark shades to give some depth but not too much. This is because I have a light skintone and too much contrast with it looks too harsh on me. Many times I do my eye makeup and then I go on top of it with a white/bone colour on top to soften it up. And of course, blend, blend and blend. I don't do my eyebrows, except for plucking them to give them shape, but that's because they are thick and very dark, the last thing I need is to add more to them.
@mepl43535 жыл бұрын

Being a soft natural, my make up secrets are: filled in, but Not too dark brows so that they look very delicate. Muted and dusty eyeshadow in the crease (a soft smokey eye) and on the lower lash line (Not on the waterline, just the outer half of the lower lash line). That makes the biggest difference for me :) And for mascara I always use the benefit roller lash, it makes my lashes long and delicate, but also a bit chunky, the perfect combination ❤️

No wonder I always gravitated towards this kind of makeup!!! Less is more for naturals. I find its very easy to end up looking like I put too much makeup on. So I always keep it minimal. I like what you said about Scarlett's hair at 7:05. Because my hair is quite thin, I am always told by hairdressers to get layers to create volume. I end up with the underneath layer looking very thin and wispy and very unflattering against my broader bones. Kibbe recommends layers for Soft Natural too, but I think the important thing is the feeling of movement in the hair, which can also be achieved with loose, wavy styles, for example. I am now growing out my hair without layers, to maintain the chunkier ends that Scarlett has in that picture. Amazing content as always. Thank you!

My personal make-up tips as a soft natural, especially for a SN with not much experience with makeup .... get rid of the eyeliner!! And I mean get rid of ALL eyeliner... if you want a "eyeliner look" use dark chocolate eyeshadow or charcoal colored eyeshadow. If you have darker skin use black eyeshadow... invest in a good quality small brush and apply the eyeshadow like you would an eyeliner. And yes blend blend blend! This way you won't be blending until the cows come home lol. .... I've tried blending eyeliner and it takes FOREVER!

re: experimental makeup i’ve been doing this thing where i take holographic or iridescent glitter and scatter it on my lids , with maybe a rhinestone in my inner corner and then do very dramatic lashes, sometimes with falsies. i find its super flattering for my eyes and if i pair it with a neutral lip i am doing a pretty funky look but not overdoing it, it’s subtle but i love it.... the glitters i use sometimes blend into my skin to look more like shimmer when in low light but any direct light and i become a shimmery rainbow of holographics! it’s a ton of fun as for my daily looks i tend to choose an area to focus on- eyes or lips. if i choose lips, i go for reds or berries and then just mascara my eyes (maybe some highlight on the browbone/inner corner) and make sure my eyebrows look nice. if i choose eyes i’ll go for a blended wing like you suggested in dark warm brown or a full on wing thank you so much for your videos! ive learned so much about myself from them, soft natural gang GANG

As someone who loves to experiment with makeup, I have discovered that a little goes along way for us soft naturals. Even with more out there colors, like yellow or turquoise, just a small dusting of it on the lids looks so much better than caking it on. Also, i recommend for fellow soft naturals using a cream highlight, instead of a powder one. It makes the glow look more natural, like it comes from within the skin. Also I like to just lightly fill in my brows, to uphold the natural look.

It took me a while to know that I’m SN, primarily because of the fact that I’m a little wide and chubby, hence I always believed I gotta be more on the yin side, until I just realised I’m just too big to have a yin frame. It’s not my weight that’s making me look big, it’s my frame that’s kinda big actually (I have been overweight for some time, and it’s only now that my weight is being proportionate, and I can now see the “yang-ness” of my frame). SN ladies should cherish their eyebrows. It should always be kept full (it often is, just go with the natural line and fill of your brow) but with a faded, gradient fill (the hair should be seen as it is, if it’s getting clumpy it’s been overfilled, which is a big no). The idea is to define it, and it’ll work wonders on the SN face. If there’s only one makeup that you could do to your face, it should be the brows. Darker, pigmented lipsticks should always be semi-matte to matte, no satin or shimmer. Light shimmer is okay if the lipstick is in a nude shade, but in overall, SN looks better in lighter than darker shades, they have a fresh aura to them.

My soft natural tricks: always start with very moisturized skin, hydrate your under eye with eye patches. I like to sheer out a heavy concealer, starting with where I actually need coverage. No foundation for me because it always is a battle. Powder: I use a fluffy eyeshadow brush & I stick only to the undereye, nose crevices, and chin. The eyeshadow brush allows me to keep the powder away from areas that don't need it, filling in poresand stopping creasing is the only reason I use it. Blush: Cream or gel blushes blended with a wet sponge are my favorite. Eyes: wet brown shadow with a skinny lip brush, draw a thin to medium line against lashes (smudge slightly as it dries). As the shadow dries in pan, use the same color to darken eyebrows with the same brush. I like to just go over the hair I already have, but I accentuate the arch and the edges, filling in holes. I try to not touch skin, just hair. I back-comb the front of the brows with my thin brush to get them to look thicker. I don't draw new hairs. Clear brow gel to keep the front thicker looking throughout the day. I only ever pluck after the brows are completely done and I can see which hairs aren't within the structure I've made. Lips: I match to the inside shade of my mouth for a bright lip, or freckles around my mouth for a more smoky eye look. Eyehadows: I usually go dusty mauve (day-to-day work/makeup look), grey (smoky eye), or caramel (natural/no makeup look). Always accentuating outer corner. If I go with a bright lip I go light or without shadow.

very nice video, i agreed with a lot! For my soft natural makeup i usually go with natural highlighter to give me healthy glow and maybe a moisturizing spray as well, nude eyeshadow colours (or earthy colors), clear lip gloss to give my lips a healthy shine and natural, brushed eyebrows and sometimes slightly painted, bairly noticeable. I always curl my eyelashes with or without the mascara to give my eyes a bigger, more awake and rounded look. For eyeliner i actually like to elongate my eye sometimes, and red lipstick of course fits good. I was actually so happy when you mentioned the old hollywood makeup because hollywood glamour/pinup style i feel has always flattered both my face and figure! SO maybe thats a soft natural thing? But, I would say the key is natural, earthy colours with a feminine glow.

This video has good tips. I find that blended looks that aren't too glittery, like ones suggested here, are best on me. I prefer darker and edgier styles. (I have intense and high-contrast colouring, so my face can handle that.) But my version of edgy will still look down-to-earth and blended into my skin. As a natural type, I look more like myself with thick straight (and unplucked) brows and smoky eyes, than with overly drawn brows and sharp eyeliners. A good thing about being a natural type is that low-maintenance looks are great on you! lol I'm a soft natural whose 'softness' is more childlike than feminine, though, so any look that is too womanly won't be that great on me. (No pinup/housewife style!) But the rest of the video I can use. Thank you, Aly!

Trying to figure out my kibbe type from your videos and I think I'm a soft natural. I have a slightly wide face and a wide nose...Here's my makeup tips hope this helps someone: - Harsh contour lines look bad so I apply bronzer (neutral or warm tone) on the sides of my nose and my cheeks with a blending brush. - I like to use LOTS of blush in a natural shade that I blend into right into my bronzer, and sometimes over the nose for that flushed look - If I'm using eyeliner, I apply it from the middle of the eye to the outer corner. This helps balance them with the wider face. - For eyeshadow, I love creme pigments and just using one shade all over the lid and lower lash line - I use sheer lipsticks and I actually go for a slightly blended edge, not harsh lines - Big brows - I try to keep it natural looking but I like to make them more bushy with a gel and brow pencil - Lastly... I avoid highlighter on the nose, as my goal is usually to make it look smaller!

Soft natural here, with hooded eyes~ I don’t do flicks on eyes. Just wouldn’t be able to see them once I open my eyes. Instead, I’ll slightly darken the outer 1/3 of the eyes vertically, from upper lashes right up to eyebrows. Sometimes even beyond the eyebrows, right up to the upper hairline. I do not extend any dark shadow horizontally beyond the last eyelash. It’s all very blended, so it’s not an obvious vertical ‘tape’ up my outer corners. This subtle shadow gives a very natural lifting effect to the eyes and face. Sometimes, I’ll add some light neutral colours to the tempos and next to the outer 1/3 of lower lashes, to give more lifting effect to the eyes. If I wear foundation that day, I’d have to add vivid coloured blush and lipstick. Nudes wash me out. Darker and thicker eyebrows and thicker but blended eyeliners work great. I’m glad you pointed out that this chunky upper eyelid look is good for soft natural. I totally agree.

I always tought that the blotted lip fitted me better than perfectly-applied lipstick. And use soft neutral colors or a pastel color palette (I’m a soft spring too) so I use the rose pastel Huda beauty palette for every day and I love it, I never use liquid liner, just to intensify the blurred line I make for night makeup. I always get compliments on how young I look

For my soft natural face I find that if I choose EITHER a bold lip or a bold eye it balances well. It doesn’t take a lot for us to look extravagant or overly elegant so doing a bold lip and eye together can look way overdone very fast. A neutral nude for the lid and a darker outer corner smoked inward with a medium dark shadow for a blended flick works really well with a great red lip or bright pink lip. Smoky eyes with a bit of translucent shimmer shade on the lid (Pat McGrath and Tom ford have amazing pallets for this) with a clear or barely tinted gloss when I want my eyes to steal the show. Another thing I’ve noticed for soft natural style is how important jewellery is. I like silver dangling earrings that are a couple of inches long with a twist design or chain link / chandelier design but not a lot of sparkling stones or hot pink resin / chunky wood etc. it just looks bland or out of place. Natural metals with clean design seems to take you from looking good to elevated without going over the top

I love your videos on makeup. The more I watch them (across different body types, so I can see the differences and get a better feel), the more I understand what's important. With Betty Grable, I find that in many of the pictures the eyebrows are too long, more typical for soft naturals would be a moderately long brow. I would love it so much if you made videos about the possibilities of stretching the boundaries of one's body type. For example, using make-up or clothes to change one's body type, to emphasise certain aspects or to pull them into the opposite. For example, I like to wear coloured eye shadow, but sometimes I have the feeling that it doesn't suit me, that it looks too artificial. But how do I manage the balancing act?

I’m very soft natural in body type and my face has a rounded essence but I have thinner lips and nose than most soft natural descriptions. It’s seems so contradictory but my time tested makeup techniques (I’m 48) are pretty spot on with your tutorial! 💖

When you said that thing about Scarlett Johansson experimenting with her makeup it reminded me of my own experiments with eyeshadows, you are right, I kind of make it work even when they are not your everyday look, yet when I borrow the eyeshadows to some of my friends I have to admit that some of them don't look the same

Watched you for years and finally figured out I am a side natural. I agree with the makeup tips however I personally love the classic 50s make up for myself but I do definitely do looks close to this without thinking about it. And investing in skincare, red lips, blush and mascara when I am on the go quickly. Thank you as always for your wonderful tips.

I so appreciate your videos!! My sister helped type me as a soft natural and thanks to your videos I now understand why I'm so drawn to the clothing and makeup styles I love!! Thank you, Aly! 💖 I personally have always loved doing my eyeliner with a crayon eyeliner-it gives a softer effect but still chunky. Liquid eyeliner was just too sharp looking, especial with winged eyeliner.

I realized I can’t blend my eyeshadow out too much you call elongate the eye very much without my eye makeup looking worse than my bare eye. Also dramatic wing liner/cat eye though very popular does nothing for me so I loved your tips🙋🏽♀️

Thank you Aly, i am a soft natural, and this really validates alot of the things ive learned that worked for me. Also I love that "big eyes make up" video you did, that was the video that i saw that made me go "yep shes a genius.." Haha

I pretty much do most of what you did. However, for my lower lids, I only draw the eyeliner on the outer corners a quarter of the way in. Excellent video! (Edit: I don’t use a lot of foundation, and just touches of concealer).

I am SN and have experimented with so many types of makeup. My tips would be first monochromatic looks THEYRE very blended natural and looks great in summer; I rarely wear liner just tons of mascara and it looks especially good with the monochromatic look. I also love doing extremely simple looks such as no makeup makeup but adding a bold lip such as a dark brown a burgundy or red looks great. I also love to do old Hollywood makeup but I do tend to make it more subtle no harsh wings or cut crease a flick with darker brown blended on the liner. My nose is not natural it’s romantic I contour as Marilyn would my nose that’s another thing look at your bone structure and contour the way you feel best bc not everyone is completely ‘SN’ or whatever body type. I tried to make my brows thinner as the suggestion of my friend who is romantic but it does not suit me at all I am too wide my features are to chunky it’s best to leave brows natural as she said. When doing your makeup just keep in mind femininity undone.

I was wondering whether to get a nose job to attempt to be more Romantic but not sure it would work if the rest of me is "blunt" and "chunky". 🙇🏼♀️

I am a mix of soft natural and soft classic, however It makes me look so fresh when i make accent on my brows! I always try to do them more like natural or flamboyant natural would do. It removes unwanted (by me 😄) “sexiness” of this fleshy face I’ve got and is simply more in line with the way i want to present myself.

Hey, I love your videos and I think you have one of the best beauty-related channels on KZbin because of your knowledge and expertise about it, and the way you explain things and state your opinions is so clear and like a fresh breath of air compared to the whole unnecessary drama and "tea". But I'm having a hard time with figuring out my body type, I'm not skinny at all and the way my body weight/fat is distributed is straight up ridiculous. All I know is I'm not really bone-y and I'm really short 😂 Is there any tricks/tips you could share about plus size women?

I'm a soft natural & in my 50's. The key is to enhance what you have & blend until everything looks natural. Less is more. Glowy cream blush, subdued highlighter, muted eye shadow, natural brow & nude lip. My secret weapon is freckle pens- I darken my own freckles under a light translucent powder for that fresh summer glowy look

Thanks for basically validating the way I do my makeup. My suggestion to my fellow soft naturals is to try to limit how many powder products you use, because like Aly said, you don’t want to look too matte. I use a satin finish liquid foundation, cream blush and highlight, and I’m looking into getting a cream contour as well. And just use a clean powder brush to blend it all out at the end, and a setting spray. Again, not a mattifying one, but also not a dewy finish either. I use a Mario Badescu mist. It’s really made such a difference for me, because I used to try for that perfectly matte vintage look, and it didn’t look right on me. And my naturally dry skin is much happier now that my makeup isn’t actively trying to suck what little moisture I have right out of it lol.
@marmoris115 жыл бұрын
Your advice would only work for soft naturals with dry skin. I’m a soft natural and I would never use a satin finish foundation since I have oily skin. I don’t use highlighter either because I would end up looking like the tin man.
@marmoris115 жыл бұрын
Also, cream blush would never work on oily skin because once the oil builds up, the cream will fade - unless you top it with powder blush only then will it work.

I actually find that I don't even need contour, some blush (a creme blush or even lipstick) applied from the apples of the cheek outwards looks quite elegant and cute. It naturally adds dimension :) so yes Aly, definitely no heavy conture! Please do a video for people with monolids sometime :D thanks!

As I soft natural sometimes I don’t put anything on my eyelids. My eyelids are naturally a little darker than my skin tone. I just curl my lashes with a curler. And that’s it ! I of course have my other make up on like foundation, concealer, bronzer. I think it looks very good on me.
@liarluis5 жыл бұрын
This so accurate. I’m not sure if I’m soft natural or more dramatic but I follow tips for both. I do agree I look much more elegant with blended natural colors. And the top eyelid trick I figured out before watching this video haha I just have round eyes and tight lining or just putting shadow in lower lid doesn’t look that good on me

As a soft natural I personally contour much higher than most people recommend actually cutting more across the cheek rather than parallel with the jawline. It can add another blunt line to your face to give it dimension but as she said, don’t go crazy with darker colors and blend blend blend

seems that I'm a soft natural and what's look good on me is just eyelashes and eyebrow, that's it ( no contour, no eyeliner, no heavy foundation). if for something more colorful the french makeup, eyelashes and eyebrow but with a elegant red lipstick

As a soft natural, I always just put a lipstick and also use that as a light blush, and ppl already give compliment😊 save so so much time in the morning since Im not a morning person😆
