Hi crafsman I commented on one of your other videos before I think it was the aging wood one. I did it on a baseball bat for a short film. now I'm going to use this technique especially the part at the end with the silver to make cheap plastic toy guns looks more realistic for filming with. thanks for another great video. have a good day.
@TheCrafsMan8 жыл бұрын
Hey Luke! I'm glad to hear these techniques are useful for your film work! The "dry-brush" trick with metallic paint on the edges of a toy weapon would indeed help make it look more realistic. (Remember to notify authorities if filming with prop guns in public. I'm pretty sure you already know that, but I just want y'all to be safe out there!) Thanks for taking time to comment, and all the best to you guys on the film!

What base color would you recommend for old copper, if you're going for a steampunk effect?
@pr.dr.nachtigaller51545 жыл бұрын
I ain't no professional, but I suggest a brown red/ rust ish base colour. The closest match for new copper. Then, use a black wash mixed with a lot of turquoise, since copper turns green when it oxidises. Try different black/ turquoise ratios to get the best result. And for the finish use copper coloured metal colour.l and dry brush as seen in the video. I hope that helps.

If you want to make it look even more beat up, take a heavy metal tool like a leather punch, or other tool the size of an ink pen, but made of solid metal, and knock it about a bit. Put some dings and dents in the wood, maybe take a hobby knife and put some nicks in on the edges. Those will pick up the wash and dry brushing as well, and give it a real nice beat up effect.
