I haven’t played Sims in years. The last time I played was the original Sims! My sister plays Sims 4 and got me back into it. I was wondering about how to make apartments since getting City Living and Discover University. This vid was super helpful! Thank you for sharing!

The thing about this is you don’t get apartment traits. In City Living your apartment neighbors can affect how your Sims live. For example, my Sim’s neighbor in the apartment complex is very noisy. It’ll effect how my Sim reacts. He’ll get a noisy neighbor tense buff and won’t be able to sleep. To solve that there is the option to Knock or Pound on their door. The neighbor will come out and talk to them and either stop or get upset. This makes apartment neighbors more realistic. With roommates, that doesn’t exist. They are just like household members, but you can’t control them. There is not much boundaries besides the locking door part. So it doesn’t feel like apartment living. I just wish you could set a building as an apartment like you could in Sims 3. With this whole roommate thing just feels like you’re an apartment manager.

yeah but not all apartments are like that anyway, that's why townhomes are in the title too the apartment lots are in an actual city, whereas these lots are in suburbs or smaller areas. sometimes living communally like this is more intimate like living in duplexes or small apartment complexes owned by individual landlords as opposed to companies. it's also more common, especially in a big city

Love your video! I've seen so many people in the comments below asking for the same thing-- A mod that can allow entire families move in as Roommates/Tenants! I would love to literally make money off of these people while watching them get married, breakup and have babies in these wonderful apartment buildings and townhouses. I've tried some of the Roommate mods and it just doesn't work as seamlessly as I would like. Mod Gods if you're listening, please!

It's a shame that we can't chose from Sims we create to be roommates. Like it was in The Sims 3, that you could ask them to be your roommate (I remember it was under the Friendly interactions). Fortunately there are mods and the chance to go to CAS and do the NPCs a makeover.

How I’ve tried on console, it’s usually worked but what’s irritating is you can’t then have the other people visit. I don’t mind playing all the sims by having them all in the household but it would be far more enjoyable to have apartments as a lot option. Lately the door/gate locks hasn’t worked for me on a lot well since getting cats and dogs. It’s so frustrating!!!

You can't have kids or anything, but you can cheat them married. So like move two roommates in, assign them to the same bed, then cheat the relationship. I also wish they could have kids though. :(

The same as when you have roommates in your sims regular home, they’ll all pay a share of the rent. Which should be awesome for townhouses since I’d imagine the bills would be expensive for a lot as big as a townhouses with so many beds and stuff so splitting the rent should make it work out more to the price of an apartment😊

A way to get roommates faster without a mod is to go talk to the sim you want as a roommate. Even the people walking by. I know they'll still have to want to be a roommate, so you may have to talk to a few different people, but it's a way to do it without a mod 😊

hey, so i was thinking about having younger sims (teens, children, toddlers) as roommates, but since discover uni requires sims to be enrolled to uni first before becoming a roommate, i think when you enable testingcheats to true and shift click the sim, and make it enrol into a uni would work. I dont know just yet, but gotta try it later when i get home. Gotta update if it will work or not.

It's been a while, but if you're still wondering: it got explained in the video. You lock all room doors and just unlock them for the sim who is supposed to live there. After they assigned their bed, you can unlock the door again so they can have visitors

Ross Pierce I’m reading the comments, the way to own multiple rental properties on different lots is by a mod. W/o mod, you need Sims Uni - you’ll need to either separate floors or “homes” for the roommates. If you wanna control who your roommates are, you can do so if your sims are friends. Then, you can control who rents..
