Very cool! Do you have maple trees there to tap and make syrup in spring? Or honey bees?
@LovinofftheLand3 жыл бұрын
We do have Maple trees which we are going to try and tap early this Spring. They are not sugar maples though, so not sure how well it will work. We also really want bees. We missed our window before the winter, but will be getting some in the Spring. Obviously with honey, but we really need them to help pollinate our crops as well. Our squash and some others failed because they weren't pollinated.
@betsyb13743 жыл бұрын
I did the same with maple trees - I marked about a dozen and they’re not sugar maples so we’ll see what spring brings. In any case it will be an adventure!
@sofi993 жыл бұрын
@@betsyb1374 It's hard to get maple syrup out here because you have to have many consecutive days where you have below freezing temps at night and above freezing during the day. This is what gets the sap flowing properly to flow out and be harvested. I'd be curious to see how it works out here!!

What brand is the grinder you used for grinding the stevia leaves? Have you used it for grinding other dried herbs? I tried grinding my dried herbs in a coffee grinder and it did not work, so please let me know one way or the other about using the unit you have for herbs. Thanks. I am thoroughly enjoying your journey, partly because that area will always be home to me (I grew up in Saanich) and because as a teen (in the 60s) my family had a cabin cruiser where we spent weekends and holidays in the Gulf Islands, many times at Bedwell Harbour. I am only now out on Vancouver Island for visits. My grandchildren are all in eastern Canada so I stay to be near them.

Yes. It works well for our herbs as well :) www.amazon.ca/YaeMarine-Electric-Household-Commercial-Improvement/dp/B07MT5YPPM/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=flour+grinder&qid=1613003921&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExUUIwNjk1TzFVRzdHJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTA1MTQwMUdKS0xCS05OSFJYUCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTg1MTA3MjNYOTlROERZNkNWRiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3Bob25lX3NlYXJjaF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl

you could also use a mortar and pestle. that will take up way less room, my problem as well. who designs these kitchens anyways?!
