You also can use a car ignition coil, a 555 timer and a 2N3055 transistor for the ignition source if you can't get a stun gun or want a safer ignition source. Though it will require a beefy power source such as an RC car battery.

Broke down a 2 dollar barbeque lighter for it's clicker. works perfectly. don't waste your money on a stun gun. If you don't want to click just use a battery and a button.

If you shrunk that thing it would make a great self defense weapon! We used to call these things polish cannons when I was a kid...All you needed was some tin cans (pending on your desired length), duct tape, liter fluid, a match and a gulf ball. A nail size hole at bottom of cannon, squirt some liter fluid in hole, drop a gulf ball or tennis ball in completed cannon then just stick a lit match in the nail size hole and BOOM!

You don't even need the Stun Gun. A grill ignitor will work just as well...Find an old gas grill and remove the red button you click to start the grill. When you take it out keep the wire attached to it and its ready to install.. Also,its a LOT smaller.

The ideal of the taser over a BBQ ignitor is that it fires a streams of sparks giving you a much better chance of ignition. Though if you can't get a taser you can just google 555 ignition coil driver for a circuit that will offer then same advantages of the taser.

tasers are expensive and can carry some legal red tape to get ahold of. You can go to any farm supply store and get a cattle prod. It works just about as well. The difference is a cattle prod will only make a few sparks a second, whereas a taser makes hundreds. Cattle prods hurt, but you couldnt really incapacitate anyone with one.

Jason Alexander well he did...that’s exactly what spark plugs do. They spark the gas inside the chambers and it throws the piston out of the engine block like the potato out of the gun. You actually could use a real work plug. Or even a grill igniter. Anything with a spark.

that was awesome Kip, I saw a video where someone made one of these but they used the clicker from a BBQ Grill and i think they used raid bug spray as the propellant and it was LOUD. wouldnt an electronic clicker from a grill work? i think its almost the same as the taser but less powerful.

you dont need a stun gun i made one with a grill igniter before but the best thing to do is mount a long nose bic lighter into the screw on cap. and instead of hairspray i used static guard it doesnt leave a sticky residue.

Yea, me and a friend made one using a BBQ clicker. Fired it a few times, neighbors call the cops on us. Cop got to my friends house and said that the Spud-Gun was really cool but technically illegal in our county. But then he turns to us and is like "If you make it double barreled it will technically be legal." So of course we did that. And we used Spray Brand Starting Either. Combustion chamber was the same size as video but only took about 1/2 second spray for it to fire 2 potatoes 300 feet.

you don't need a stun gun they can get pretty expensive just use a barbecue electric ignitor you can buy it at walmart i think and it's the type that you can install in your barbecue

the spark from two AA batteries will get you the same result as a taser spark. you just need a source of ignition. more voltage doesn't and never will mean a larger combustion. so instead of paing 50 bucks for a taser you could just buy two batteries and some wires...

I used 4 inch x 2 feet clear pvc for the chamber and 2 inch x 4 feet for the barrel. Used cheaper white adapter fittings and I created two ignition points within with wood screws and used plain old speaker wire to connect the cheapie stun gun in series with the igniter points. Kicks ass! This gun on the video seen here is very under powered. One final thing, wear rubber coated gloves when testing and shooting, that stray voltage hurts the hand big time! LOL.

On a hetero note: even the least of your videos are entertaining & informative. On this variation of a vintage back yard favorite, it's unlike you to settle for good enough, rather than perfect the concept. So I request another video to employ the following suggested improvements: 1. Clear PVC is ideal as it shows fuel evaporation and depth of the projectile. But is rare as also expensive. Mod: use standard S40 PVC & compensate the plunger depth while loading by measuring (or marking) the dowel.

I was very intrested in this potato cannon so i went out and found some two inch and 3 inch schedule 40 white pvc (which was free) and built it myself. The only difference was I used a different ignition. I found a old bbq grill ignitor. it works great and the total amount of payed was 20 dollars and that was mostly cleaner and cement. Ill soon attach a response video

2. Not everyone owns or would buy a low grade stun gun. Offer audience the 9volt alternative, better yet- the disposable camera condenser? 3. Rather than waste fiel / time, install a ball valve for charging rather than a PVC cap. *Starting fluid / butane refill = more bang. 4. Why not devise a safe way to attach the fuel to the unit (less baggage). I've yet to see that done. 5. Apples. Animals eat them, plus less chance of hearing complaints since a cylindrical spud = evidence. Love your work!

Addendum: Rem(Remington)gun oil in a spray can seems to work the best as a propellant and it's not a bad idea to hold the thing together with wood screws in addition to the pvc glue and 2 or three wood screws will keep you from ramming the potato all the way into the chamber. And wear those gloves LOL.

i made mine with a 1 1/4 inch barrel and a d battery fits really nicely and it is went thru a 3/4 inch peice if chip board, 20 feet away, im not reliablue for what yoy do with my plans, dont try to duplacae, just 4 legal shit

Mine has a few differences, I have a double latched hinge connection with rubber gasket between the barrel and ignition chamber so you don't have to push the potato down with a dowel. Also, mine uses a barbecue lighter and trigger/handle assembly from a paintball supply store.

2" is way too wide for the barrel. I always use something in the 1" to 1.5" range, and then sharpen the end so it cuts potatoes to size when you jam them in. I also saw someone comment on hairspray vs deodorant. The adhesives in hairspray form a non-conductive coating on your electrodes. I've never had an issue from deodorant.
