I already have the 0-Ctrl and 0-Coast, plus Maths, Q-Pas and X-pan in my system, and XPO and Mimeophon will be arriving next week. I knew that Mimeophon is often used as a sound source, and I knew filters could be pinged, but I really had no idea just how far those ideas could be taken. This is a real eye opener.

around 6:00 when you turned off the cycling MATHS, where is the mentioned "FM" happening in the patch?
@jacobstern21504 жыл бұрын
After that, he sends gates to the Cycle input of the Maths which causes it to oscillate during certain steps. While the gate is high, the QPAS filter pings are being frequency modulated by the Maths channel, since Radiate modifies the frequency of the filter peaks.
@0neTwo0neTwo4 жыл бұрын
@@jacobstern2150 dope thanks for the explanation. I wa slike i dont remember a FM input on QPAS but yeah I wasnt thinking of it that way.
@jacobstern21504 жыл бұрын
@@0neTwo0neTwo Ye and it's extra cool because the peaks are being FM'd in opposite directions! Though, come to think of it, I have no idea if or how this actually affects the sound lol
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
the effect of the opposite direction FM would be more apparent at slower frequencies, probably not much difference at audio rate like this. for tuned FM you typically use a bipolar wave and a linear input, neither of which is present in this patch :D
@0neTwo0neTwo4 жыл бұрын
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC so the opposite direction is a natural occurrence? i thought the direction of the modulation for each side was determined by where we set the attenuverter?
@michaelshenton57604 жыл бұрын
Is there a way to do this without maths in the equation?
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
This particular method involves generating functions from a transient-detecting gate source, and I'm not sure there's a way to do it without MATHS, at least within our system. If you have some way of offsetting the envelope follower CV downward then you might be able to gate a standard ADSR with it but it would depend on the particulars of the modules in question. If processing some audio that is not Morphagene-derived then you would also need a slew limiter to use as an envelope follower.

I have an original Maths, and I never understood how or why to use the Cycle trigger on the new Maths, but this is a great example, and makes me want a new version of Maths. Is there a work around to trigger cycle on the original Maths, or is it only possible on the newer version?
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Жыл бұрын
For Ch4 you could patch the EOC through a VCA and on to the Ch4 trigger input. Send a gate to open your VCA and this will roughly emulate the CYCLE input.

Hey Walker, not directly related to this patch, but been trying to figure out the rnd gates from the woggle. The manual says that the are related to the main gate stream, but in practice it's difficult to discern that. Are the rnd gates a subset of the gate stream or something more devious?
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
It's kind of about the relation between the sampling clock and the Woggle output, but also affected by just about every part of the circuit

I bought a qpas today so I’m watching a few videos about it.. I’m just wondering why you’re sending a constant voltage to the input!
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
QPAS responds with resonance to pulses at the input. Holding the input high and pulsing at the VCA instead gives a different response (sharper, in my experience).

Walker- y’all need to run mic & synth separate yo! You’re missing an opportunity to showcase the nuances of MN sound while demoing the patch. Streamlabs OBS can do it easily- I think there’s room to slap an ES-8 on the end of that skiff and you’re golden.

@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC sure sure. I regret being such a twerp about it. It's a filter, so you immediately think q-pass, and the underlying acronym supports that intuition, so it seems like pure caprice to insist on "q-poss", a gesture seemingly intended to permit those in the know an opportunity to correct the poor plebeians... But alas, I'm at least as ridiculous to care so much about it...
