I have that exact knife and inherited it from my Great Grandparents. When I got it after they all passed away I restored it much the same as you did and use it quite a bit now. It just feels good in the hand.

I do too! It was in my family a few generations ago and now it’s in the utensil drawer in the kitchen. Even though I’m a knife maker I don’t want to restore it cause it’s a piece of family history.

it’s nice an relaxing to watch something be fixed like that, it feels like something I might actually be able to do compared to a lot of videos. would be nice if people were like that too, just hit you around a little bit and do some sandpapering and all your problems are fixed.

KZbin tells me before you do a restoration video you are supposed to coat the item in layers of chalk paint so it looks like it was salvaged from the Titanic :D Using only hand tools left a lot of character on the blade, although it seems like it might be hard to clean if you use it in the kitchen?

Love the work! How long do you keep the knife handles in the oil btw?
