Maker's 46 Bourbon Review

Episode 379. I have had this open for almost a year, time to share some thoughts. I find this release bursting with vanilla and oak. Rich, sweet, a fair amount of spice too. It can be a bit tannic for me, but today, I am enjoying it. Have you had the 46? What are your thoughts? #Maker's #Bourbon #whiskyneighbour

I found the 46 a bit astringent at first and then it started to mellow and open up a few pours into the bottle. Definitely prefer it to the standard MM. Great review, cheers Jon!

I like both. 46 prob a little more. I do wish MM would produce a finished bourbon in barrels rather than staves and see how that compares.

Maker's 46 is a much more flavorful experience to me than regular Makers Mark. I would put 46 high on my list of favorites, and yet regular Maker's doesn't really rank for me at all.

I can relate. MM is good, but not really something I keep on the shelf. The 46 is much richer and fuller for me. Cheers!

I'm generally a fan of MM, though it did take me a while to get into the 46. My first impressions weren't great, but I really enjoyed it when I revisited it after having a break from it. Cheers Jon.

Took me a few times to enjoy the Makers 46 but I absolutely enjoy the Makers 101!

I love the powdered cocoa on the palate. Very pleasant. Makers46 is a top 5 for me. Great video!

I prefer the regular Maker's to the 46, but I'm not a big bourbon guy... By the way, the pieces of wood that make up a barrel are stay-ves, not stavs...

MM 46 is pretty good. It’s similar to MM Cask Strength (IMO). The 46 is $35 USD VS $38 for the Cask Strength. So that’s a toss up. Although the regular MM is on $24 here, I would spend the extra $10 for the 46 everyday. Nothing wrong with the original, but at the $24 price point I would take the WT 101 over the regular Makers. So you have not had 46? I know I had some cautions on the end, but I really recommend trying it. A rich dram!

Makers 46 is very good! Doesn’t burn and move vanilla and oak flavors. I also use it for a mixer and it’s outstanding!

I'd suggest Bulleit or WT 101 as a mixer... Rare Breed if you like it hot and straight , Knob Creek is a bit less potent but very good... and if you like a milder wheat profile, Larceny... Makers Mark misses the mark for me these days... even Buffalo Trace is better

I used to really like MM but it started to give me an irritated mouth, kind of like a chemical burn... or maybe that sensation you get when you've had too many Cherry Halls cough drops in a day... so I gave it up for a few years I've been hearing 46 is good and I saw a better sale (down from $60 to $45) so I tried it tonight. Now, I'm used to drinking high proof Bourbon lately (Rare Breed is my favorite) but that stuff doesn't really irritate my mouth other than a bit of a burn while drinking it... nothing lingers Maker's Mark 46 after 4 good sips on it is really irritating my mouth now... again same as having too many Cherry Halls cough drops. The nose was not overly complex and I wasn't overly impressed and oddly I got a bit of that apple peel/fake cherry smell out of it... again when I think of fake cherry it's not Jolly Rancher, it's more like Cherry Halls .... and I totally got that Cherry Halls on the tasting.... I don't really get much of the vanilla/creme brule I don't remember regular MM being overly high on tannins but 46 certainly has that (maybe that's where I get the Halls cough drop as they do the same thing as high tannins) I'll totally take Buffalo Trace over MM any day now... although I am not impressed with BT either as I feel they water it down too much, it's be soooo much better around 100 proof I recently had Larceny and really liked it, I'd for sure get that again... I really need to try the Barrel Proof version... that might become my favorite wheated if it's better than the regular Larceny. All I know is I'm never buying MM again... I don't know what they put in it that gives my mouth chemical burns but it totally does it every time now... I'd gladly drink a plain old Wild Turkey over anything Maker's Mark now.

with those cocoa notes, it sounds like the French oak had a serious influence on the juice!
