The dark in this history was that this woman gave and gave, she spied for allied powers, she supplied relief during the war and gave back to her communities and the US Government destroyed her career for a decade because she had the audacity to stand up for herself and her people.

I visited the Pantheon in Paris this year and saw Josephine Baker’s tomb. There were fresh cut red roses on top someone had recently left. She is still very much remembered and beloved by the French.

There's an awesome story about that last performance in London, she was outside for an hour signing autographs, tlaking to people, a little boy was there with his grandparents, she was asking the little boy if his mother knew he was out so late because he should be at home and he shouldn't be there so late and the grandmother by Josephine know that they were taken care of him because his mother was in hospice so she told them to wait while she ran back inside and came back out with a stagehand holding a huge basket full of roses and she gave them to the little boy and told him "tomorrow, give these to your mommy and tell her they're from Josephine".

@@ErineyAshby Yes. Who cares if she just happened not to be racist. As a non-racist myself, I would've helped others too. That's not a big deal. She made no personal sacrifice. The only sacrifice was that of her pre-born baby. A baby who did not choose to have his/her light extinguished. Nothing she did could ever make up for the fact she killed the less able. Her own child! She was ablest! And a hypocrite!

Lynn Whitfield played Josephine Baker in 1990, and it is one of my favorite movies. The twelve children were given up for adoption due to her financial issues, and her animals were sold off to pay debts. Information is based on the 1990 Josephine Baker film. Gotta say from now on if anyone asks me if I could be anyone else she is who I would want to be! What an amazing person!!!! Also I believe the people that literally changed the world and didn’t get statues or widespread recognition for their amazing lives are the most influential and inspiring people. Being popular and widely accepted does not necessarily make your contribution to society impactful just influential.
