Hi Ted! Regarding foam heating...is one of those small culinary blowtorches a viable alternative?

Why not vac form them at the start with the sides so you don’t have to glue some on later and also make it look better from the side
@EvilTedSmith
@EvilTedSmith 6 жыл бұрын
That's what I wanted to do...But they were bad pulls, and the sides were no good. So I had to add the sides.

Evil Ted Smith I thought that might be the case. I don't have any experience with vacuum forming

Okay this is a cheap shot but... then you should build one. (Seriously though, it's a trivial task)

You could probably make something like this out of craft foam.

My first thought would be blister packaging from various products. You could cobble some of them together into a single panel and use metal strips / stickers / whatever to hide the seams.

In addition to craft foam, as somebody suggested, you could use cardboard or glue sheets of sheet styrene, you can buy these from any decent hobby shop or order them online.

Styrofoam packing materials (like you'd find cushioning a TV inside its box) also has some pretty interesting shapes.

You could also use a string of serially addressable lights and a small microcontroller as a comparative a simple way of getting all the lights blinking in different ways.... or you could actually use it show meaningful data without having to devote a single IO line for every light
@walkmanamtc
@walkmanamtc 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed - with every light blinking at once, it feels like the system needs to be rebooted.

C'mon -a Raspberry Pi and a quick Python script? You know how high the bar is for you ;) KIDDING! Love the work, and it was a nice build. Love the videos and you've inspired me to do some of these projects myself. Couldn't pull that off in a day, so I guess I can give you a break :D

It's probably a low budget movie so he went low budget here. Also for something in the background that wil probably never be up-close or fully in-focus, this will probably be great.

There used to be something called the 10 foot rule, a prop or set piece only had to look good from 10 feet away. That's because the resolution of TV screens and to a degree film, used to be that anything from further than 10' away wouldn't show up clearly enough for any details to be clearly visible. This is why prop/set designers used to put joke text on video screens knowing that no one will be able to read them. Of course HD has changed this to more of a 5' rule but the basic idea still stands, if it's not going to be seen up close then it doesn't need to be highly detailed or that well done.
