Ok Bob, learning to draw out a taper at the forge is day 1 for young smiths. This should definitely be on your list of things to try. You'll find it's very easy, and will waste less material! (Draw your taper before bending the hook!)

Great video. I love that (based on the Mandalorian) it is also used as a toothpick for banthas (ep1 of seas 2). I feel like if you choose to revisit and do it all in metal, all you have to do is pull the plastic portion off it and make a pour mold and reattach the metal one to what you built. Regardless, i would love to see what you have built painted up and weathered. Well done.

The gaffi stick in star wars Is a Polynesian war club from wood and the wing mace with spike was added on the other side that's the reason for the sleeve attachment. Nice adaptation of it. Keep up the good work.

I've been gathering up parts to make my own post apocalyptic style gaffi stick ever since I saw it used in The Mandalorian. I have a stash of scrap gears and sprockets for the "bulb" and I'm going to use black pipe for the staff. I'll wrap it with sports tape and paracord for a nice gripping handle. No forging, lots of grinding and welding though.

Luckily the Book of Boba Fett actually goes into the making of a gaffi stick, involving funding an actual piece of wood. Plus, the Fijian totokia(the weapon the gaderffii is based on, is made entirely of a knotted branch. The gaderffii just also has a flanged mace/spike at the other end.

The curved end is meant to be wood. It is patterned after the Fijian Totokia, a war club. Some 18th century examples are snugged away in museums as far afield as the US, New Zealand and Israel.

I highly recommend a cheap set of V-blocks to hold round things in a vise! Also, welding on a sacrificial bar as a handle to a larger piece of stock can be a way to get around your tongs not being large enough. Love that this is a functional prop you can abuse and have fun with. Bloopers were also on point! :D

So, from what I've been told, the Gaffi stick is meant to clane the teeth of banthas. Now, since we don't have banthas, but we do have smaller animals like cows, what if we made a small Gaffi stick? I can see a very fun use for dual wielding mini Gaffi sticks.

Excellent forging skills! Hey we can't be pro's at everything right?? I loved the method you used to make your Gaffi stick. A little trivia, the originals were based on Fiji warriors Totokia war clubs, with metal fins and a spike added at the non club end to "Star Wars it" , but in the lore I'm pretty sure they were made of scrap metal/durasteel. Either way, that thing is one wicked home defense system. lol
