I really like the combination of maple and purpleheart and I especially like your extensive use of hand tools. My only suggestion I would venture is; given the overall dimensions of the box I would suggest that you go with a thinner wood, say 1/2" instead of 3/4". Also, a mitered corner joint would give you a more pleasing corner transition. Thanks for sharing your video.

Thanks for watching. Soon all my boxes will be dovetailed, I’m just perfecting my technique! Cheers

@@TheTranqI think that I would still use 1/2” or 3/8” thick for the sides. A 5/8” thick top IMHO would balance out with that.Dovetails show the builder has gone the extra mile and really impresses those that care.

I really like bird’s eye maple but find it difficult to plane. My choice for a top would probably be have been walnut but purple heart pops. I find the box on the heavy side for a jewellery box, more like a man’s box for odds and sods. Maybe 1/2” thick would look more elegant to a lady but a nice project.

You need to get some of the wax that rob uses for the bottom of your plane, and are you making sure to chamfer your edge before you square the end grain on the shooting board

I use candle wax for the plane bottom and it works well. And yup I always chamfer the edge to avoid tear out. Thanks for watching

@@TheTranqI agree, candle or a block of bee’s wax is all that is needed. Don’t buy into everything you see on these KZbin sites. They are in the business of selling. I watched the New Yankee Workshop for years and ended up with a workshop full of tools that I seldom use or need. I must admit, you can learn a lot from KZbin. 🇨🇦👍👨🦳
