In this video I use Smooth on Mold Star 20T and Smooth Cast 300 to re create a body to use for junk car races. I did this utilizing a 2 part smoosh mold technique. www.smooth-on.... www.smooth-on....

Thanks!! Initially it is time consuming to make the mold but once you have the mold made up you can pop bodies out very quick. The next step would be to make a gang mold so you could pour multiple bodies with 1 pour but I’m not going down that road. 1 at a time is plenty for me.

This is a very good video. Great step by step instructions. How brittle are the bodies you make? When I was younger, we would shape some aluminum foil over our slot car bodies. We would carefully remove the foil, and sometimes paint them. We would attach them to the chassis with double stick tape. While we were racing them, the bodies would get some realistic dents in them. Occasionally, there would be some sparks if the aluminum contacted the track. Fun stuff.

Thank you for this. I too have a love for slot racing. And I am ready to mold cars myself. One caveat that I would like to understand is the rear wing/spoiler. Is there a technique to do cars where the wings can't be detached (I would like to make the 1998 Mercedes GTR and the Bugatti Bolidde a slot car as that example)? I'm starting with the 2022 Countach just to get a feel of things..

My husband really enjoyed your skill at making a mold for slot cars. Question for you, would you be interested in making molds for t-jets? If so, what would the cost be for each mold? Any chance you live in Florida?
@TheSlotSpot2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I live in PA. Between work and other hobbies I don’t really have time to make these on any regular basis. Check out big donkey resin he has resin body’s for t jets . They are not on his website but if you email him he will send you a list of bodies he offers .

Great work , what's the Name of the Silicon you used ? And resin thanks
@TheSlotSpot Жыл бұрын
Mold star 20T is what I used but any of the mold star series will work. The lower the number the softer the silicone. I used smooth cast 300 in this video but have since found out that smooth cast 321 is a little more durable for racing.

Smooth cast is a great product that don’t need vacuum. Just mix slow and don’t whip a bunch of air into it.

@The Slot Spot the problem is i live in Australia and i have been trying to get products from Smoth on for years but it has been impossible so i need to stick to Barnes here in Sydney, i was hoping i could get some advice regarding the technical aspects of the resin you use so i could maybe try to get something similar in here, thanks for replying man, i appreciate it 👍

Hi how long did you wait , to poor the 2nd mold ? Is there a cure time in between ? Thanks
@TheSlotSpot Жыл бұрын
All depends on the product you use. There is typically a work time and a demold time. I think this specific product was around a 10 minute work time and a 2hr demold time but I would read the instruction sheet that comes with the product you use.
