So, I just found out that while I may be quite decent at Besiege, one thing I apparently struggle with is counting. While making this video, I counted a quarter of the teeth on the big gear, then multiplied by four to get how many teeth there are in total, because I didn't feel like counting all of them. Trouble is, I missed the quarter mark by a tooth, meaning I counted five teeth instead of four, and then concluded that the gear has twenty teeth, when it actually has sixteen. Therefore, when calculating the gear ratios 20/8 made 2.5/1. The real ratio is of course 16/8 or 2/1.

the ukulele could do with some work but the design and commentary are fantastic. Thnaks :)

Very nice design! I've always had issues with piston transmissions.

you should make a video dedicated to your ukulele lol

Nice design, simple and effective, just made an inline 6 engine and plan to pair it with something similar to this

Great work on this channel! you should put all of your improved creations into a car and see how well it runs, maybe even make a V8 piston engine :)

Is this able to handle a lot of torque? I'm really interested in the idea of parallel transmission gears, but they all seem to be unstable and slip at high power.

As far as I can imagine, unless you find a way to have every single gear pair perpendicular, this is the best design approach you can take, since the gears are supported on both sides on ridgid points, they don't have much room to flex out of mesh. What you might need to do with this one though, is brace the gears on the input shaft together, and get a lot more grip on the coupling claws, maybe using spikes, or grip panels, if you want it to handle a heavy load

@@vlastasusak6881 perpendicular gears are what I ended up doing, yeah. Even connections between blocks seem to bend and stretch when enough force is applied on them, meaning simply bracing the gears better wouldn't keep them from slipping. Perpendicular gears are very inefficient at making strong transmissions however since they need much more space.
