Awesome job! I have 7 children and we have had sooo many room changes trying to make everyone fit and be comfortable. I’ve come to the conclusion that they are better people for learning to live together and get along. It prepares them well for life. As long as their needs are met, it’s up to them to bring the happy. Great job on the beds and good luck. Can’t wait to see it all come together!

Just wanted to say I think you guys did a great job on the bunks. I bet some will say there's not enough space, etc. It looks fine to me! Everyone has different perspectives. If a viewer is skeptical of this setup, they should try to remember it's only temporary, and also, even if it weren't temporary: There's nothing inherently wrong with kids not having their own rooms. My brother and I (with him a boy and me a girl) shared a bunk bed for a long time. Our room was TINY. We survived just fine. We never resented it. My husband is from Eastern Europe, and his entire family lived in a 300 sq foot room for most of his childhood and teen years. Their living room tripled as a bedroom and a dining area all at once. My grandmother had 8 kids in her family, with a 2 bedroom and 1 bath. She always talked about how it was 5 girls in one room and 3 boys in the attic. (Two girls per bed and one with her own bed.) She grew up just fine. (And no one ever accused her parents of negligence or child abuse for housing their kids that way. That was the norm back then.) So I think it just comes down to perspectives. If people saw the way I live, they'd be criticizing me left and right. Knorpps, I think you all are awesome. Keep doing what you do!

I would say most people in the U.K. live in this size house or smaller. Traditional houses were built in the Edwardian and Victorian times, my 3 bedroom was built in 1901. New builds are built for maximising profit so rooms are small. It isn’t the norm to have the pantries seen in the US, walk-in closets, more than one en-suite, no laundry room.. our washing machines are often in the kitchen with a tumble dryer if you’re lucky. It’s fun to learn about how different cultures live reading the comments! We shared bedrooms, my cousins 4 girls shared a room. And in your case it’s not forever! My parents now live in a big house but it’s still not like the big ones you see on KZbin in the US. Love your videos 🙏

Madeleine Holmes I don’t think it’s common in the U.K. for children, particularly teenagers to have to share such small rooms.
@shangreer9060
@shangreer9060 4 жыл бұрын
I agree. My sister and I shared a room until we left home. I don’t ever remember it being unpleasant. Yes, we fought and argued but it allowed us to understand compromise and forgiveness. The Americans are very unique when it comes to big homes. My brother lives in Maryland with his two kids and we were blown away by the size of his house. Half the space is unnecessary. There is only so much space four humans can take up.

I know this is late but maybe you could've made Pearl's bed like one of those dorm beds where it lifts up? With that, you can still put dresssers and desks under her bed. There might be 2 bunkbeds and it will look crowded but they get more personal bed space and still have dressers and desks under Pearl's bed.

It'd be interesting to hear about how they're discussing the sleeping situation with the kids and how they'll tweak it for maximum comfort, I only wonder because towards the end in the rental, Esther had her own room, and Peter & Asher actually needed more privacy in the bunk situation they had before.

What fortunate sisters your girls are to have their parents build custom furniture for them, especially since they had input on the project. My late Dad had a woodworking hobby all my life. I loved to watch him at work, and I still love the smell of fresh sawdust. I treasure every little thing he made for me, even down to a little recipe box. I inherited my parents’ expensive dining room furniture. It’s very pretty, but my favorite piece of furniture that I own is an old derelict second-hand kitchen table that my Dad and I refinished together. What a clever idea to alternate the beds!

I have some ideas for the girls room! Coming from a girl! I would suggest getting a fuzzy white rug for their floor, that way it's soft to land on and looks cute (it can be a pain to clean but it's so worth it) Also take a look at getting a fabric shoe storage to hang in their closet or on the back of their door! I have had mine for ten years and it works great! Also, some fairy lights for the girls would be great if they had clips on them, so then the girls can hang photos up and have them illuminated by the lights! Some plug multipliers would be great too, that way they don't argue about who's hogging the plugs haha. This is all advice coming from a college student, so take with it what you will.

To everyone worried, have you never had to make do to achieve a bigger goal?

Thank you!!!! I think this generation has such a high level of entitlement. I was 13 when my dad lost his job and we had to downsize for a few years to recover. I don’t remember our family being any less loving and happy. Instead of restaurants we ate at home. Instead of the movies we borrowed movies from the library. We got through it and came out the other side just fine. This is a transition which will teach the kids the value of patience and working hard. This is what the challenging times of my childhood taught me. It’s not always going to be perfect but you can still enjoy it. Some of my best childhood memories are of my sister and I sharing a bed and listening to the radio. We were broke and happy until we were not broke and happy.

Good point. When I was 14 we moved from Mexico to Canada because my mom's dad was sick (my mom is from Canada). We moved from this huge beach front penthouse with panoramic views, a huge pool and two living rooms to a small 2 bedroom flat, next to the highway, where I shared a room with my two brothers. We only had this small and old tv and a dvd player, no cable. We used to go to the small movie rental place and rent 2 movies for 5 dollars. We LOVED it! After a year, when my dad asked us if we were ready to move back, my brothers and I refused and told him that we preferred it here. 17 years later and we are still in Canada. I think that that time made us grow closer to each other and appreciate the important things in life.

Even when we got a house large enough to have our own bedrooms, my sister and I ended up using her room as our study room and mine as the bedroom. Upon watching a second time Meghan you were no slack off....you worked very hard along with Mike...installing the air conditioners and doing the painting of the beds not to mention all the kitchen works...what workaholics you both are. I am mighty proud of you two... I am tired just sitting here looking.

When I saw the rooms I thought it might work better if you put the boys in your room and take the smaller room for you and Mike until you build the addition.

I had the same thought. Perhaps because they need a desk for their at home business, they decided to keep the larger room.

We have a window AC unit in the bonus room above our garage because it's a hard room to cool. We place foam board on either side of the unit as well for extra insulation. It really helps!

This is coming from a klutz - when Pearl gets out of her bunk, does the stool slide much on the floor? I would probably break my neck in the middle of the night if I was getting up in the dark, and trying to find that stool.

Geez that middle bed of the bunk beds is soooooo darn skinny on the legs . I feel claustrophobic just looking at it. Nice idea but wow poor kid in that bed 🤨

I don’t get why people think it’s cramped? Her head would be way in the open and your legs are just cramped. I mean I’m claustrophobic so I wouldn’t like it but it’s not extremely cramped for someone without it. (Also this is just my opinion not trying to be mean)

The only one I would be comfortable in is the top because I sleep on top of a loft bed. But they don’t get claustrophobic so I guess it doesn’t matter.

Thoroughly enjoy watching the Knorpps. Love seeing their ideas and dreams come to life. I just have to give a huge kudos to everyone for going through all these changes, i know it can be hard for kids, but especially the girls and their room... That bunk bed is awesome, however that middle bunk makes my claustrophobic/anxious tendencies go crazy!
