Wow that use of a brass pipe fitting just blew my mind. Very nicely done.

Agreed. Just the simplest things can be used that are hard to think of. Thats unless u use stuff like this all day every day. Probly so much other unique ways with nuts and bolts.

Oh Hell ya! I'm 69 years old. Retired US Army. Been playing with knives, ice picks, machetes, axes and spears since I was a little kid. I loved the idea the second you did the sketch and played with the fittings. You can bet that I am going to make one here this coming weekend! Lol Being from Texas I will use some nice Mesquite wood. Thank you for the how to video. Was nice watching the whole thing.

With stuff like these, I like to use a good food analogy. The craftsmanship is the brisket, and the sauce is the music. A really good brisket doesn't need any sauce.

Thanks. Right now I have another video in progress using the same drill+grinder "lathe" and it works great. You can see the shop in the beginning of the "Small parts storage" video. I changed it a little but will wait for some more improvements before I make a shop tour video, since I want it to include some ideas people can use in their workshops to save space.

How can you tell if a screwdriver is made of hard enough steel to make an ice pick like this?
@TheSmallWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
You try to file it. If the file bites then it's soft, if the file skates then it's hard. But if you plan to use the ice pick on soft materials like wood it doesn't need to be extremely hard. It's not like a knife to cut things all day and get dulled.
