Well, you can make these for any occasion, as I do often for my family. My boys love them! Hope you enjoy, ❤ Laura
As usual I am doubling the recipe so here are the ingredients for 1x and 2x. 😁👩‍🍳
Sticky Buns (for one 9x13" pan):
Dough:
2-3 cups Flour
1/4 cup Butter/Margarine
1/4 cup Sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons Salt
2 3/4 teaspoons Yeast
Sticky Sauce:
6 Tablespoons Butter/Margarine (melted)
1 cup Brown Sugar
2 Tablespoons Sour Cream (can use whole milk or cream!)
1/3 cup Maple Syrup
Sticky Buns (for two 9x13" pans):
Dough:
4-6 cups Flour
1/2 cup Butter/Margarine
1/2 cup Sugar
1 Tablespoon Salt
1 Tablespoon + 3/4 teaspoons Yeast
2 cups Water
Sticky Sauce:
3/4 cup Butter/Margarine (melted)
1 1/2 cups Brown Sugar
1/4 cup Sour Cream (can use whole milk or cream!)
2/3 cup Maple Syrup

I've just returned from bruderhof in Kent spending Easter. It was amazing I have learnt so much. The kindness and generosity was immense. The food was excellent.

You are welcome! Unfortunately the yeast that I used was a little old (sitting on the baking shelf for too long), so they didn't rise as nicely as they usually do, so make sure that you use fresh yeast. I'm planning my next baking one already 😊

I just mention something, butter will stay good many days at room temperature at room temperature. Where it's soft. Makes it mix in easier. Nother thang, egg yolks, high in lecithin, is an emulsifier making oils and fluids mix similar to soap. But dey say, add just a little oil, Earl if from rural south, where once it mixes in, it's like a chain reaction where you can add moor. Then, if yoos add a tsp. of sugar with yeasts and warm water in a warm area, get it to working about an hour ahead, it helps thangs work faster. Now if I was in Mrs. Laura's place, I'd use an old time clothes wringer instead of all dat rolling. Another hints fuh ya, so many buy mixers, like a hand mixer, where when twin mixer, it is especially made. But, many of the mixers fit into a regular drill. Where I lurned by not having a mixer. Then like a wire whisk, it works good for cleaning too, like inside deeper things like jars and bowls. Of course let soak furst. While talking about cleaning, many pots and pans you can add a little water, get it to boiling. You need not use a whole lot of water, where you want whatever's cooked on to loosen, while simply getting the pot, bowl, whatever to get hot, where pour water out, spray with Easy Off. There is a more effective way and something else that will clean anything off pots, but I had it pointed out that many are not that careful. .otherwords people have to have things idiotproof. Where if they don't know whut they doing, I guess it is better. As it's also good to show a person whut can happen if they ain't careful. Not so they fear it, but so they understand and be careful safe. Besides all this, them thangs sound good, look good too, where I wish a teleportation device wuz made public, 😉😉😉😉😉

Ooh, I can answer the question about the ‘window’ test for dough; when you stretch it out like that, you should be able to hold it up and see light through it, like you could through a window pane (e.g. evenly, without ragged bits giving darker patches etc.). Personally I liken it more to stained glass than completely clear glass, but the main thing is for light to be evenly visible through it :)

A simple way to make a cinnamon roll type thing with kids: You need refrigerated crescent roll dough, large marshmallows, melted butter, sugar (white, brown or both) and cinnamon. Separate the dough into triangles. Mix the sugar and cinnamon. Dip a marshmallow in the melted butter. Roll it around in the sugar cinnamon mixture. Wrap it in the crescent dough and plop into a muffin tin. Bake according to directions on the dough package. The marshmallow melts in the dough leaving behind an ooey gooey cinnamon sugar filling.

I also heard that there is an ice cream tradition at the Bruderhof… for birthdays and also a large sack of candies… :)

I'm sure they are delicious, but I can't eat gluten and also have problems with insulin resistance, so I just made glutenfree & dairy free & sugarfree buns/cookies - that are actually low-carb as well - with: almond flour coconut flour chia seeds (optional) eggs (lots of!) coconut yogurt neutral coconut oil natron/baking powder erythritol (healthy sugar substitute) stevia (optional) cardamom (optional) cinnamon (optional) vanilla (optional) Allergens: almonds, eggs, chia seeds + the spices Add apples, (plus more cinnamon + erythriol), remove the chia seeds, and you have ingredients for a sugarfree & glutenfree apple cake. Serve whith whipped cream (I use plant based)

What an involved process - I can see why they're special birthday treats! I'm curious that in the cooking videos you've posted I see mostly simple ingredients. Is this just because it's not worth posting a video about opening a packet, or is there a preference in the Bruderhof for buying simple ingredients rather than pre-made or processed food? If there is, is it a frugality thing (I know you believe in diverting resources to various worthy causes), or a cultural/religious preference for simplicity, or just that when living in community there's more time for cooking because people care for each other when required?

Are sticky buns the same as cinnamon rolls? I forgot to buy cinnamon rolls, but I have all the ingredients to make them myself, including the yeast.

It's not the same, but you can add cinnamon to the recipe if you'd like!

Have your tried cooking with bubble gum flavour I don't know if you can get it where you live but it's available of eBay or Amazon

do you take them out of the pan straight away or can they sitting in the pan for awhile?

You can do either. If they sit in the pan, they tend to stick to the bottom once cooled, but it doesn't affect their tastiness!

You can use store-bought maple syrup - but I love the flavor of the genuine, purely made from maple tree sap! 🍁
