Making bowls oneway easy core first use. In this video I try using my Oneway Easy Core bowl coring system for the first time. I utilized many other KZbin videos and I successfully was able to core my first bowl. This will really increase my bowl production!

Great video. I just added one more knife to my set and now I'm ready to tackle a small stack of sassafras logs I have waiting. Oneway now stocks a 25" coring rig, specifically for the American Beauty. Two things I'd love to see in future videos... 1) do you have a "system" for storing and organizing all of your coring attachments? 2) would LOVE to see your lighting an camera rig that you use for filming. Your videos are all well lit and in-frame--- all great stuff!! Thanks again.

Thank you David! I have come up with a way to store them. It is nothing grandiose, but at least they are out of my way and somewhat protected. I will try to show them at the next time I do a video with the coring tool. I am sure I will do one over the winter. I have a very large maple that I am going to take down in December. I will be happy to show you my camera rig (such as it is) but it truly is no big deal. I have two Gopro 5's and one 8 and one 9. I use them interchangeably. I use two tripods, one with a horizontal arm that I look straight over the work with and another traditional tripod straight in front of me. I use the ambient light in my shop. But I will try to show that as well the next time I think of it.

@@BrailsfordWoodworks Oh, I got my first core, using the smallest knife on very wet wood. Unfortunately I used 3” screws and they went all the way through the bowl. I have, however, covered them in end grain sealer, buried them in shavings and will wait until they dry to see what can be done in a few months. Thank you so much for taking an interest. Good job on your first-time coring. I bought the small knife set last year and will try it out on maple this week. Most of my blanks are too small for coring but that might change in the future.

Excellent. I have the McNaughton system. It gives a little more freedom in the shape, but it has a much larger learning curve. The replaceable cutters on the OneWay are nice as well. There is a company that makes a carbide cutter for your system. Just think of all the extra bowls you’ll have rather than sweeping up the shavings. You’ll be money ahead in short order. Great video.

I';m sure you've found it by now but Hunter Tools has a carbide cutter that works wonders, it's spendy for the enitional set up but replacement tips are $25 and they last a long time. I usually put a tenon or mortus on the piece to be cored out.

Thanks Pat! Actually One Way sells carbide tips and I did get those. I know the hunter tools have a different profile than the One Way. I may try them at some point. The One Way carbide does work much better than the steel.

@@BrailsfordWoodworks The Hunter Korepro is 100% better than the carbide cutter from Oneway and is simply amazing. I got over 75 cores from just the one side of the cutter and only recently flipped it to the other side and never have to sharpen it. The cartridge is a bit expensive to get started at about 200 bucks but the replacement cutters are dirt cheap. It makes using the already great coring system from Oneway even that much easier to use. Cool video, I hope you also watched my video's on the OneWay Coring Tool. What I found: - The depth stops (for the height setting) are not much good, I made better ones on the metal lathe. - You have the same cutter I have. Great cutting out of the box but they are impossible to sharpen.

I am looking into getting a oneway system. I found someone with a "new" complete system with looks like 5-7 cutter blades. How do you like yours? Is it worth the investment?

Thanks for watching! I do like that I am no longer turning useful wood into shavings. It does the job, but given that I have not used another system it is hard for me to judge if it is better or worse than other systems. I will say that carbide cutters are absolutely necessary. There is another coring system from Australia that I wish I had looked into further. By the way, make sure if you buy that system that it has the correct base for your lathe. Thanks again!

Mike i just got mine today and when you lined your cutter up did you line the TIP OF THE CUTTER UP or the shoulder? I first lined mine up with the spur tip but then someone said the shoulder the back of the cutter. To me that puts the tip like a 3/32 to 1/8 of an inch below center ???.

I put mine at the tip. I am not sure that it will make that significant of a difference.

@@BrailsfordWoodworks is it normal to get lot of chatter abd stuff as your entering and following through the outside of the bowl is real rough but the inside is pretty smooth. Think I'll raise it up to the point see if it makes a difference. ????? Almost like one side is sharp and than trying to cut the other side dull. ???

Thanks Jim! Very simple... I can either use a woodworm screw or put it in my cole jaws to add a new tenon. I will do a follow up some time on how to work through a set of nesting bowls. I want to wait for my other knives to arrive.
