i use a feed bag and a mop bucket strainer to get the substrait to field capacity . it works better the less substrait in the bags , you get a lot of leverage with the handle . it takes forever doing it one handfull at a time lol.

Ohhh. That is a great idea. I tried using a tortilla press, but it was too small. I was thinking about a wine press kind of thing too, but I don't want to clean more stuff. I don't do large volumes, so my hands are ok for now. I like having Popeye forearms :)

It's funny the small things you pick up, I like the way you used your knife on the trashbag after everything was completed. I juat stopped using liners bc I didn't like cutting it after the fact. I was trying to cut it close to the sub while scoring the tub all around, it was a mess.

Hey Ed. Thanks for all your work and info. I was thinking you could save a little energy and time by braking up your grain in your bag (like you do), but then put your squeezed sub into the bag and mix it up before putting it all into the shoebox. This will save you the time of mixing it by hand in the open air, reducing contam opportunities to present themselves. Seems easier to do in a bag rather than by hand also. "Shaken not Stirred". Lol.. Just an observation. Thanks again and look forward on watching and sharing your content. I'm Interested in a few of your strains you have on your sight also, Ill be placing an order very soon. Perhaps this is a silly question (because I'm sure all have a place in your heart) but is their a favorite of yours I should consider getting from you.. hell, Ill just get them all..lol I too am a fellow Michiganian. So that's like friend and family prices then, right..LOL playing with you.

That is a great suggestion. I actually tried it before. I was actually gonna use larger bags for the spawn and then use the bags to fruit. The problem is the bags get brittle after they go through the PC :( I still have a soft spot for the CKB and Enigma crosses because that was the first di-mon stuff I did. I also like the new Toque mono F1s that should pop out some really cool stuff. Special family price $14.99 ;) For real though, I usually put in some extras anyway. Thanks for watching. Hope it's warming up there.

That makes sense (about the cracking bag). One of those ideas that seem practical, yet at the same time run greater risk of all the hard work ending up all over the floor.. Thanks for the response. You are very generous Ed, but I think a mans hard work should be rewarded in full. Your content is gift enough for me :) . Either way, I am grateful Ed, (Ed or Edward. Which do you prefer to be called). I have a few questions but Ill wait to ask on the next stream (or perhaps Ill have it answered in content I have not gotten too yet of yours). Either way, Thanks and take care.

In regards to the 8x12 PP5 bags you are using to create spawn, I noticed there are no filters. Do you find filter patches not to be necessary? If using filter patches do you have a preference on the size?

The bags I use are good for spawn. I just staple them 4-6 times across the top.

Hey Edward if my apes smell bad when they are drying in the dehydrator does that mean they are bad? They don’t smell good! I’m afraid to eat them and get sick! Also I cloned it so will the next harvest be ok? There was black growing in the tub so I scooped it out and the mycelium recolonized the area but I don’t think it was completely gone! Or did I let it grow for to long and it went bad?

I know we have had are disagreements hope to squash it. But do you like using the 12 quart over the 6 quart? Or what size are those small bins u use
@edwardgrand Жыл бұрын
No idea what our disagreements were, but glad to squash them. So many people dislike me, I can't keep track anymore ;) They don't list them by quart size here, but it works out to about 7 quarts. They sell them as 'shoeboxes'. The lid is kind of loose and the tub has some holes near the top. No gasket, which helps with the gas exchange during consolidation (about 3-5 days). Then I just take off the lid and pop them in my tents.

Hey Ed, I have a question that I've been thinking about for a while now, and I havent been able to find a reliable answer. Maybe a video suggestion idk? But can you explain why. Or how. When we clone a mushroom that has the desirable traits we want for example an albino mushroom in the middle of standard mushies , how does it occur when the dikaryon mycilliam that produced it is the same what makes the genetics in the mushroom different from the mycilliam. Sorry for the long winded question, I'm hoping it makes sense. Thanks
@edwardgrand Жыл бұрын
If you made spawn from multi-spore (i.e. swabs, prints or MSS), it is probably a mix of different dikaryons. It is not a true 'monoculture' until you have cloned a single mushroom or have transferred a very small piece of mycelium on agar for many plates. That is also why we sometime get sectoring on plates. The size/piece of most people's transfers to new plates is far too big and is likely maintaining a mixture of dikaryons that eventually become spawn. The best way to isolate a true monoculture is to clone a single fruit (near the middle of the stem) and use that for subsequent generations of spawn.

Hi Ed. Thanks for another epic video. I wanted to ask a question about bacteria... why is it that moisture is a magnet for bacteria? I'm understanding why mold spores germinate etc but will bacteria appear if everything is sanitised, but there is just too much moisture?

Im in Aus and dont have a martha so temps are whatever it is on the day. Winter's just started ( If you can call it that) And everything runs a bit slower anyway. Have you done a vid on different effects of cubes yet? People say its just strength that varies, I disagree,some are visual and whatnot. Not sure if its you tube friendly.
