I have several. Just search 'grain' on my channel page.

Awesome explanation of the grain spawn. I like to think it’s like making dinner for your mycelium. Better chefs have consistently happier fruits. it’s the difference between being able to make a box of Mac cheese vs real cheese and noodles. The level of knowledge is key.

Hey Ed thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in all of these videos! You are golden! I have a simple question. Have you used grain water (the water you soak your grain in to hydrate it) in your agar recipe? If so, do you use a full liter of grain water in replacement to purified water? Wondering if you have any knowledge on this, thank you
@edwardgrand Жыл бұрын
Yes. Grain water makes an excellent substitute for the normal water used in the recipe. Maybe just add 1-2% Corn syrup and 2% agar. Or no sugar if you want to get more rhizomorphic growth on plates. I've used the water for soaking and after boiling. You'll have to experiment a bit based on color and grain. Works great.

Looks like I few new experiments to try out playing with a new recipe

Don't they need air exchange?
@edwardgrand2 ай бұрын
There is enough air in the bag and the staples allow enough air exchange without letting contams in.

Can i have my brwn rce as dry as as your paddy rice and still have it Colonizers well.
@edwardgrand2 ай бұрын
It just looks dry because it has the hull still on it. The grain is actually 'al dente'. Dryer is better when it comes to the surface. But you want the grain cooked properly. It's a difficult balance to strike.

Regarding smell. Ive noticed that when I first open my jars or open colonized tubs my first impression is a very mild ketone smell, is this part of that sweet smell? When breaking up the spawn I definitely get that earthy, mushroom smell though.

You boil but not Pressure Cook??? 🤔😊 Well ok, you do PC. Do you have a video on that?
@edwardgrand Жыл бұрын
I boil first to hydrate the grain. The paddy rice has a husk/hull on it which is quite hard. It takes a lot to get it soft and moist. I have to be careful not to overcook the grain inside though. Sometimes they'll burst open and get starch everywhere which can get kind of messy. After letting the boiled rice drain for about 10 minutes in a colander, I pack it into my PP5 bags, staple the top, and PC for 3 hours.

@@edwardgrand I get that but how if they are stapled shut do you just open them transfer and then restaple? Ps me and my buddies have been talking in amazement of the staples all day. I’ve been slowly trying to switch over to bags without having to spend a ton of money to try it out like on an impulse sealer. So I’ve thought about trying a hair straightener that is already in my house and isn’t used anymore but buying low volumes of unicorn bags to try stuff like sealing them half assed out they like a dollar each so idk. I want to try your way but I’m terrified they will all get contaminated or I’ll mess it up somehow, because I have the worst luck. And I don’t want that to throw me off of bags.
@edwardgrand Жыл бұрын
@@OGTYone Staple before PC. Let them cool. Use a hot scalpel to slice off part of the top. Inoculate. Fold the top back down and staple again through the folded part. I have another video somewhere here about it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/havIe2eVaa6ZiJo
