Hey Bev. I have to share my secret. I use a paint strainer bag that fits a 5 gal bucket or big stockpot to strain my broth when making large batches of stock. It works wonderful.

Yeah I need Santa Claus to bring me a canner. It’s difficult to pinch off the money being a single dad. My kids Christmas comes first.

Yummy looks so wonderful, Bev. The onion skins give it such a rich colour. Much love from Thunder Bay Ontario
@cookiegirl2cookie19711 ай бұрын
Don’t they though. I make sure onion skins make it to the roasting pan with turkey for that reason.

Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving holiday, so canning turkey and broth will be slated for the following day. It always amazes me just how much I use my canner over the Winter. This year, I have a couple of whole chickens that need to be canned, and about 6 gallons of tomatoes that were harvested in early July to turn into sauce - all languishing in the freezer, and I can assure you that the garden will produce collards, turnips and cabbage that will need processing, too! Everything I can process today will be something I won't have to buy this Summer and beyond.

Yep, our turkey carcass went into 2 crockpots Thurs. night, with the drippings. Added 2 qts of store-bought chick.broth & 1 veg.broth. i got 12 pints of STRONG turkey broth; 6 w/meat, 6 w/o. Only processed 11, used 1 for more gravy. 😊😊 Same gonna happen for Xmas. And the ham too.

Just finished dehydrating cabbage. Got two big heads on sale, so why not. Decided to try something different, instead of cutting the cabbage in wedges I cut it in disks, disks in halves and then in about postage stamp size squares for dehydration, perfect for “mock cabbage rolls and casseroles. I’ve done shredded too and that is great for coleslaw, especially for the kind with vinegary dressing. Not saying it was my invention but it works and it didn’t take long ( did pick out the thickest pieces though, nice snack)

Gluten in a butterball!? Thank you for the information. Our oldest is celiac so I can everything gluten free.
@OurHalfAcreHomestead11 ай бұрын
Apparently there's some gluten. In the butter they inject
@ericgeorgetruckgrilling11 ай бұрын
I checked the Butterball site for ingredients and it says gluten free. Most butter is also gluten free. Can you explain exactly what the gluten is. I have a daughter that is celiac and she's never had problems. Also you can use cereal wax bags for dumping your damp garbage and in some places if you are green binning it you can use a microwave popcorn bag. No need for extra plastic bags.

Can you save potato scraps to make veggie and/or veggie/meat broth? Will it cloud the broth? If so, are there other veggies you don’t want to make broth from?

90 minutes pressure canner whether hot or cold broth and either quarts or pints?
@ItsAllAboutGracie-zp4jl10 ай бұрын
75 minutes for points. Doesn't matter whether it's a hot or cold start at all has to come up to pressure eventually.
