Great story on the anvil. I still have many tools that had belonged to my father who died in 1976. Every time I pick one up to use, I think of him.

I've actually visited the town of Söderfors here in Sweden multiple times but I didn't know they had a metal plant there, apparently there's still a plant there doing metal work. Interesting to see where things end up all over the world

Some people have the gift of giving gifts. Your grandmother had that gift. I lived in Africa as a kid. One of the missionaries gave me a Stanley #5 jack plane. I loved the gift. A few years later I ran his cabinet shop. Still have the plane and the memories.

Merry Christmas to you and yours Keith. Glad to hear you're recovering from the cold and vertigo. At 77 years of age I have numerous tools that were made by and or belonged to my father who was a "Fitter and Turner" for Ingersoll Rand rock drills in the underground workshop at the Roan Antelope Copper Mines in Luanshya, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) where I was born. He taught me the "how to" of them over my younger years. Some he gave me to start my own tool collection and others I inherited when he passed away in 1984. I still use some of them. Best regards for the New Year from Canada's banana belt , ✨🤞🇨🇦👍✨

I understand the nostalgia perfectly. One Christmas my parents got me a electric saber saw and my grandparents got me a 3/8" electric drill. Up until this all I had was a handsaw and a egg beater hand drill. It's been well over 30 years ago and I still have the drill and use it frequently. It is a old Craftsman that was actually made in the USA. The bearings are going bad so it makes noises but still works. Still think of that Christmas! May everyone's Christmas bring them those long remembered memories!

Wow what a beautiful memory you shared with us. I have a lot of tools that were given to me for Christmas gifts from the early 70's. I too have some family tools passed on to me and they are special because they have initials scribed in them so me grandfather is still working with me. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

My mother was born a Fleming in 1917. Her father, George, was a blacksmith and farmer in Wittenberg, WI. I never met the man, but my pop did manage to show a know-it-all kid the process of forge welding using George's forge. In my late teens, I used that forge to melt aluminum and do some lost wax casting. The forge has turned to dust, but the blower is with my brother, as is the monster vise.

Cool ornaments! If you want the ornament to face outward instead of turning sideways, try tying both ends of the yarn together first to make a big loop, then stick the loop through the hole in the ornament, then put one side of the loop through the loop on the other side of the ornament and pull tight. Hard to explain in words, but the direction of the yarn loop makes the ornament face forward.
