When I was in Germany I noticed they have a basic recipe but cook with whatever they have on hand. It is always good and amazing no matter which region you are in. Very Hardy food. Hubby LOVES all of it. You picked a good one. Well done. Make some mash taters. 🙂I have not made that one. Love your adventures.

Fun series. My husband and his family lived in Germany for 5 years, them moved back to Kansas. I actually have no idea what he ate there, other than Hawaii toast. 😆 Which is toasted bread with a slice of ham, pineapple ring, and cheese under the broiler. He a sa picky eater. I do know he likes my family’s German-American food I grew up with. Bierocks, sauerkraut stew (with pork and potatoes), cabbage rolls, and ham & beans over fried noodles. His favorite are the bierocks and they never last in the freezer for long. We also like kielbasa and/or brats sautéed then stewed in a sauerkraut, onion, and apples, which we serve with boiled potatoes and carrots. Not sure how German all that is. I’ll should ask my in-laws. 😁

Tapas may be a great first to get into Spanish food. Maybe tortilla Espanola, patatas bravas, gazpacho, croquettes or pisto. Tapas are just small plates of different items. So yummy. If you have a tapas restaurant near you, go!

@@allthingsmandy I'm thinking smaller dishes would be easier than the obvious paella which is a lot of expensive ingredients.

Mandy, this was one of my favorite dishes growing up. My mother was from Germany and she made this regularly. You made it as close to authentic (Bavarian) as I've seen since hers. The only thing she didn't use was the mustard. Celery? Carrots? Grape jelly? No, no, and hell no! Thank you for keeping it authentic. - By the way, it's pronounced with the emphasis on the second syllable: Rou LA den. So many times, German cuisine is overlooked on these youtube videos, thank you for doing this one!

Pronounced Ro-la-den. Like row row row your boat. Ro La Den. Just like that. It is delicious. You have to use thin sliced round steak though. Many grocery stores have this but the slices need to be thinner.

@@allthingsmandy To be honest, I've never made paella before. I know it is very popular because we also make it in Puerto Rico. It is not the authentic version, though. In Spain, they love their seafood and sausages. We make it mostly with meats, pork, and sometimes chicken. Even combining both seafood and meats. Also, the seasoning in Puerto Rico can change a bit. Maybe there's a KZbin channel of Spanish food in English? I watch a couple of the channels, but they're in Spanish.
