The Growtac Equal calipers look so darn pretty. Thank you for showing us so much detail about the build process, Igor.

Thanks for being our distributor for Growtac Equals here in US. _Any_ further thoughts, info or comparisons on those brakes would be _greatly_ appreciated.

good build! just one detail: mechanical rear disc brakes that have the end of the cable facing up, WILL attract water. I recommend using some type of rubber boot to minimize water ingress. the ones on V-brakes are great for the purpose. a dab of waterproof grease on the housing end and you just grew the lifespan of that brake wire & housing.

Nice Video. would love a video on doing rear dynamo light and how to solder in the light to the front light. espcially with like a quick disconnect.

I wish I had watched this yesterday before I installed a new cassette and derailleur! Installed the Sunshine 11-36 I got from VO last week, and it was a wonderful ride today!

I'm sure most people who wrap their bars know this, but DO NOT skimp on electrical tape. I made the mistake once of getting an off brand from a grocery store. I'm a cheapskate, so for a good couple years I just put up with crappy bar tape finishing. Basically the glue from the tape would come off on the wrong side. It held overall, but some of the outer sections were sticky when it should have been clean. I'm looking forward to the finishing touches on this bike and other builds that get done.

So you don't cut the steerer tube where you marked it, but maybe 3mm below yeah?
@velo_orange Жыл бұрын
That's correct. In the steerer tube holder, there's a little window to see where the mark is. If it's a client's bike, I'll usually cut a hair above the line and add a 3mm spacer on top of the stem. That is so they can move the stem up a bit if they want. You can always cut more off, but you can't put it back on.

Thanks for making a detailed, calm and not heavily edited, flashy video. There should be more of that on YT. Gotta be honest though, only watched the first few minutes so far (saving the rest for this evening on the couch), but there’s some things that will probably make newbies confused. You draw I line above the stem to determine where to cut the steerer tube, then when you install the fork the steerer tube is a bit below the top edge of the stem (as it should be, of course). But you never mentioned anything about that when you showed the sawing itself. Also, you use that little saw guide, but most people who this video is aimed at will not have that tool. Same goes for the star nut installer tool. It would be helpful if you pointed that out and mentioned some alternative ways to do those steps. Look through the eyes of a novice, so to say.

Thanks. It came out sounding a bit harsher than I meant it I think. They were just some things I noticed, but overall I really like this video series! I think a lot of people/companies/channels making these kinds of videos don't always realize how well equipped they are. Many people don't have (or want to spend) the money on expensive tools that do just one specific job, especially when they won't be doing those kind of builds often.@@velo_orange
@velo_orange Жыл бұрын
That makes sense. As far as tool recommendations, I've always told people start with a solid metric hex set, phillips screwdriver, decent repair stand, and housing cutters. That will take care of 99% of the work you need to do on regular bikes. Acquire specialty tools like a headset press and star nut setter as needed. No need to buy one of those 2000pcs master mechanic sets when you won't use most of it. @@whateverbikes

I thought the growteks were picky about housing and not a match for the VO?

Exactly. Why not use the housings provided by Growtac?

The housing I used is Growtac. I meant to say derailleur housing at the beginning of the video. I shouldn't have said "full-length stuff". So I can see how that was confusing. Though, like the other repliers, I have used our own brake cables and housing as well as Jagwire, and have found performance still really good. Without identical side-by-side comparisons, I'm not sure I can feel a difference.
