For people who don't have a lot of third party plugins: just start with this. it covers so many of your needs. together with your stock plugins it's somewhere between 80 and 99% of what you need. Since you like the omni on bass, you should try to use the low "de-ess" on bass sidechained by the kick. works fantastic and you dont have to sidechain compress all of the bass guitar from top to bottom!

The Schepp's Omnichannel has been my secret weapon lately. Glenn, I want to just say thanks for showing your whole process with the plug in organically on these tracks. I was glad to see that even though I'm involved with mixing songs that are very different from metal, we both use very similar processes. I love your channel, and I have learned a hell of a lot from it.

You know, one of the more understated things about vids like this is how we get to hear perfect examples of mixing terms you regularly hear such as "honk" on a snare. It's great getting context of what things like "honk", "boxy" and "muddy" frequencies actually sound like (especially if you 'solo' the frequencies you're cutting out so we hear it perfectly)

Excellent plugin I got a while ago on sale too. Definitely a lot of coverage today and I don't think it's just because it's on sale....waves clearly handing out something to get the coverage. Glenn says it's been one of his favourites lately but this video is clearly the first time he's used it. Just wish people would be more transparent with this stuff if there is an element of paid promo about it.

Nice run down on this plugin - I like and use it myself also for one or the other item in almost all the mixes since I first got this when it first came out. This is such a complete and full featured plugin and it really is killer. However, for a channel strip, I use the Brainworx bx_console_4000 SSL E and G - because it simulates 72 individual tracks just like a real full console - the width, depth, tone and warmth are simply unrivaled to date. This goes on all tracks, bus and mixbus - period. The only beef I have had with the bx_console_SSL4000E is that the compressor is not exactly like the hardware console. But back to the ShepsOmni - I really like that there are 2 de-essers in sequence which let you de-ess and/or control any trouble frequencies - that is just great.

I got this last July (2018) when they had a flash sale for $29 (they do these a lot) and it's so comprehensive in providing modules it's overwhelming to a novice as you try to suss out what knob and buttons to manipulate to get the desired effect. Fortunately, it comes with a good base of presets to get you in the ballpark. While recording a radio spot, I tried one for bass (IIRC it was something like "Direct Bass"; don't quote me) and the tone was so rich and punchy I didn't need to use an amp sim for the track. It sounded that fat.

Hey Glenn, you've mentioned several times that tape is very expensive & that most bands aren't good enough to get it right...I was wondering would it work/be worth recording the raw tracks into your DAW, then when they're right output them individually to the tape? Probably a new starter question (I'm taking my first steps away from multi-trackers) but I was curious. Cheers & great video to come home from work to as always!
@joshwheeler42285 жыл бұрын
Recording to tape and exporting to tape will give you different results. Think of it like starting off with a high quality FLAC audio file vs converting a low quality mp3 to FLAC. There is a ton of extra information in the native FLAC file that won't be there if it's converted from a lesser source. In the same way if it's recorded digitally, it's going to sound digital. If you're really going for the analog tape sound, there are a number of great tape emulator plugins that will get you close enough to fool most people.
