Thanks, I am just starting out with the MOI trial, and needed to know about sweep. A friend of mine many years ago introduced me to his dad, and ex Rolls Royce body maker. During the war he made the Spitfire engine cowling, by hand. I own a 1930 Austin Seven "special". A hand made 2 seater built on an A7 chassis. The man who built it during the 50s got the aluminium for the bodywork from a local RAF base. They were scrapping a Spitfire or two. It's possible, maybe, that my A7 is a bit of a Spitfire.
@FlyingSModels Жыл бұрын
That's great. Enjoy that free trial and ping me if you have any questions or need any help. Another feature that I need to make a video of is the "networking" function to do surface modeling. This is often more useful and accurate than the sweep function to make fuselage parts given their complex curvatures. That's a fantastic story about your friend's father and your Austin! I'd just assume yours does have some Spitfire in it. Makes it even more special! Happy Modeling!

Wow. I've been into scale modelling for a while, and recently started servicing and working with 3D printers, but I haven't really looked into 3D modelling. It seemed all too difficult, especially with more advanced software everyone uses,but after accidentally seeng your video I gave MOI a try and though I have a lot to learn, I'm really fascinated with how intuitive it is for someone less familiar with CAD. Thank you

Thank you for leaving some feedback. I agree with your statements completely and found myself in the same boat. I have been wanting a Douglas BTD Destroyer model in 1/48th scale for a long time. The only size they make is 1/72 by a couple of oddball companies. While I'm thankful for at least that it still isn't quite to my liking. I'm pretty sure they aren't using this kind of software either because like most resin kits they don't fit well and the detail is fare at best. Too me this is like a breakthrough. At 59 I am a little out of the loop, However I do my best at redrawing fuzzy airplane model scans in Adobe Illustrator, a software not really intended for that kind of work. I'm really enthralled by this kind of work!

Well done, Chad. I know that many are intimidated by the long learning curve of most modeling software and may feel left behind. I think you have demonstrated in this video that MOI's Free 90 day trial can help overcome some of the "fear of the unknown". As model kit builders, we should know that it only takes some commitment to learn how to use the tools available to us. MOI is a tool, and with a little patience and practice, it can be learned. Your multi-part creation in only 4 weeks shows the power and ease of MOI 3D. I was certain that getting these results for this complexity would take much longer. The finished product is like magic! Thank you for your time to present this enlightening introduction to MOI 3D from FlyingSModels.
@FlyingSModels3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Dan. To be honest, I even surprised myself. I'm still learning, for sure, but the software tool has made it much easier for me. Once you get going with it, it's actually kind of addicting and it's amazing what can be done. Pretty much limited by imagination and the ability to envision how to create something.

@@FlyingSModels it was a question for any rhino-modelers who might stumble into the comments section. Very similar to the GUI you’re using, but maybe with a lot more bells and whistles. It’s also two or three times as expensive, and with a LOT of bells and whistles. Grasshopper is also a very cool add-in which is free, but not at all necessary for the type of modeling you are doing. I really liked this video, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! Intending to buy a 3d printer, I was motivated by your previous video. I dabbled in 3d graphics (including parametric curves like NURBS, which the ones from your new clip seem to be), it was cool in the early 2000's but I abandoned this hobby. Nobody even dreamt of 3d printers back then. As for panel lines - maybe a small diameter line projected on a surface and boolean substraction would work? For rivets I'm thinking small spheres in array along panel line projected on the surface and substracted or added depending on the kind of rivets. Forgotten how cool it is to figure out stuff like this :) Thanks again for a very informative video!
@FlyingSModels3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. You are correct on all fronts. MOI is NURBS based (from what I know). And I have had some luck cutting the surfaces with the boolean function and then chamfering the edges and rejoining them. The small sphere does work great for rivets. Just have to work on scale as while it looks just right on the screen, it typically is understated on the print. Need to work adjustments there. Hope you get back into it!

I tried this with Catia, my main issue is the scaling on printing. Chitubox doesn't give you a precise measurement setup, so it's trial and error until you find the right scaling factor. My next idea is to create a "ruler" on Catia and print out on Chitubox in orther to find the scale ratio.
