In this video, I take my new Phrozen Sonic Mini 3D printer for test spin before starting to print the parts for the upcoming 1/48 Fairey Gannet AEW.3 release. I used the printer to print a 1/32 P&W R-2800 engine crankcase.

finally a video that is not related to printing minis ... does not explain all but resin printing is learning

I really wish companies like Resin 2 Detail would just sell the STL files, so people that arnt very good at CAD work can print there own stuff.
@FlyingSModels
@FlyingSModels 3 жыл бұрын
That's a real challenge, from what I would imagine. They would need to find a way to allow a single print based on a single purchase. If they sold their intellectual property, it could just be resold to others and they'd lose control of their designs.

And, voila! there it is. I should have watched this video before I asked about car bodies. But I am backwards. That engine you printed is phenomenal. You made it look easy, but all of that computer jargon went right over my head. I suppose I could get one of those and have my kids run it. Obviously some of your Fairey Gannett kit will be cast, with other parts printed. Very cool.

Yep. Printer works great and is super easy but the real magic is in the design of the parts. That's where I'm a rookie (really less than a rookie).

Feb. 27, 2022----Got back into modeling, but this time it's 1/35 scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas. Been looking at both types of printers and resin is the way I'll be going. Thing is, there's a lot of stuff NOT available as kits such as sinks, dining chairs/tables, etc. Which would mean a lot of scratching building and then making silicone molds of them so I could make a bunch of resin copies. But with a printer, I can print as many of something I want, at one time. One YT guy showed how it took 8 hours to print 1 D&D figure, but then he made something like 24 at one time, with it still taking the same amount of time. So I'll be doing the same with portable generators, etc. I'm 68 and trying to learn cad and it's kicking my ass. The reason I want to learn is for several reasons. There are some things I haven't found files for, like porta potties, urinals, etc. Adding to this is me wanting to use a lot of modern military vehicles, specifically, APC's...armored personnel carriers as basically, ALL these kits have NO interiors?! When I learn cad, I'll be adding detail not seen before, even if it's for a specific kit. And maybe I can even cad people/zombies? Once that happens, hope to post my files online for free so others can enjoy/print them. Thanks for the video, because I've got a lot of OLD aircraft kits that I started buying, but never built back in '74.

Yep, 3D printing is really changing things in the model world. And welcome back to that modeling world. 3D printing will be great for what you are after. Take a look at MOI 3D. I have found it to be really easy to learn to produce the kind of parts you are after. And they have a free 90 day trial if you want to check it out. Ping me over on my facebook channel/message if you need any help with it.

That is some nice detail. How easy is it to find files ready to print?
@FlyingSModels
@FlyingSModels 3 жыл бұрын
That's the hard part. The designs have to be created. You can find odd ball stuff to print but for aircraft modeling, most things have to be designed by the modeler.

Hey Roger. At this time R2D is not selling the .stl files. But please reach out to Brian directly at resin2detail.com or you can ping him over on his facebook page or newly formed youtube channel. Hope this helps!
