Lovely little kit. Nice to see that contrary to the frequently told horror tale, white spirit can be applied on top of acrylic without "destroying" it. At least tamiya/Gunze "acrylic lacquer", I mean.

I used this technique also a few years ago, building 1:12 F1 cars. But I did some additional stuff: I pushed the copperwire with the solder ( but I retracted it a bit, to obtain some space ) into a shrink tube. If you carefully warm up the outside, it will shrink and creating some sort of hose with ribs in it...looks pretty convincing 😉

Are raised panel lines typically a problem when masking hard edge paint lines? I recently got a little paint leakage, didn't sand down the panel/rivets. thanks

Depending on the size of the raised lines and how you spray the hard edge, it can be. It's tough to prevent some leakage under that tapped area sometimes.

No, that kit does NOT go back to 1963! I recall very well when it first came out and I had hoped for a 1/48 P-39 for years. Revell had an old 1/46 P-39 from the 1950's that was not too bad - with some work - but did not re-release it except as the Cobra II racer with a 4 blade prop. Atlantis models sells a re-release of that old Revell kit.

@@FlyingSModels thank you sir... the vinyl can be stretched a little to more approximate the folds shown in yr video and which I believe is correct for Navy aircraft as I think they used flexible covers. David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Wednesday, 2 October, 2024) You give us a professional, straightforward narration of an efficiently methodical build, for which I quite appreciate you. Most channellers either say nothing at all (perhaps their lack of familiarity with the language), or try to assure us they are no better than the rest of us. (What? I want someone much better than I am to show me what I need to know!) A few (fortunately) jabber incessantly (and I am loquacious!). At 13:06, you paint the dorsal horizontal surfaces Dark Sea Blue. Is this flat or gloss, please? Have you assembled any of Tamiya’s 1:32nd-scale kits of the Chance Vought F4U Corsair USN/USMC/FAA Fighter series? If so, I would like your assessment of them, please. I built the B-29 Enola Gay model displayed in the Smithsonian exhibit on the Hiroshima bombing mounted in the National Air and Space Museum back in 1994-1996. For the model, I used the Monogram kit, but scribed all the panel lines. It was such a large aircraft and laborious process (plus the fact that it had to be a flawless natural metal finish) I decided that it had to be a model subject I was very excited about before would go through all that trouble and effort again.
