that video was very helpful in determining weather or not to sell boards or try to scrap myself sounds like selling would be more profitable, a whole lot less time consuming and less stress. trying to tear off the gold and silver from boards is a long process for not much metal then you have to process i think i will stick to my pins. thanks moose

Hey Moose, I've been doing a lot of Ewaste scrapping lately. My biggest thing that I'm stuck on, is whether or not to depopulate components off the boards or not. I know that can devalue boards. For things like tantalum capacitors,especially on hard drive boards, I'm at a standstill on my decision. Any opinions would be appreciated!
@moosescrapper59289 жыл бұрын
+zackcat276 Well, here is my opinion.....lol.... I take what I want off every board except hdd logic boards and PCI or peripheral boards. Those are the only ones that I can make more money off of mailing them to a refiner. My local yard only buys "green Boards" meaning that all circuit boards are the same in their eyes and they pay 16 cents per pound (still waaaaayyyyy better than steel!!!). So I have a sorting caddy that I have in my living room for when the Walking Dead is on I sit on the couch with some boards I collected that week and pull off the following, in order of my most favorite:IC CHips, MLCC's, IDE or other gold plated pins, flat packs ( which is still technically an IC), Tantalums, Crystal oscillators, SMD LED's, and then any other randome items with gold plating on them or silver. The boards, especially mother boards, still have a lot of stuff on them so I sell them to the scrap yard as is.
@zackcat2769 жыл бұрын
Ok so your opinion is to leave the hard drive boards as is? Just wondering because I came across a few that have a couple tantalums on each one... Also, you sell to refiner? As in you send those boards out and do you receive money or precious metal in return?... I'm also in the same boat with you on what my yard buys, they only pay one set price for whole computer, laptop, and boards. My plan was to accumulate a very large quantity of mid to high grade and then find somewhere to ship them to, or drive to even if it's a few hour ride. Thanks for help and your opinion is greatly appreciated!!
@moosescrapper59289 жыл бұрын
+zackcat276 In my opinion, I think its best to leave the HDD logic boards alone. They are perhaps one of the most valuable boards in a computer per pound. For a hobbyist to try to recover the gold from them would require a mastery in sever different techniques of gold recovery and refining. I find that there is plenty of other material there to play with and selling the logic boards to a refiner for cash is a lot easier and can be sued to purchase equipment, tools, chemicals, what ever you need to keep the hobby going.
@zackcat2769 жыл бұрын
Thanks again! I'm all about doing things whatever way that will bring the most money but it will be hard to see those tantalum capacitors on the hdd boards and not want to pull them haha. Great channel and thanks for the help always!

Also I have tried sand bath, heat gun, tearing, ripping boards apart and have not found a good way to get any board clean. any suggestions ??
@moosescrapper59288 жыл бұрын
+Tracfone/straighttalk subscribers that are angry!!! Yellow boards are often not gold bearing. Very often it is a yellow solder mask. If the boards are free from other things like ic's, mlccs, caps etc then you can try soaking them in AP. If it is gold, it will come off.

Where is the best place to easily receive scrap? Could you do a video about electrolosis gold recovery?
@moosescrapper59289 жыл бұрын
Leonard Greenpaw If you are looking for easy I think you may have the wrong place...lol. Scrap sources vary from community to community so thats kind of hard to answer. I would suggest placing free ads where ever you can, print small flyers for grocery stores etc. I am thinking about doing a video on reverse electroplating but want to make sure I have a few pounds of pins before I invest in the acid, power supply, etc. Thanks!

Dutch Scrapper The only thing I can think of is a difference in volume. If CJE gets a lot more volume they can likely offer more money for the scrap.
@johnzeimetz69837 жыл бұрын
This really seems to be a no-brainer. Yes, every aspect and process you compare these two companies on seem to be basically even EXCEPT payout. Isn't maximizing profit what this is all about? Seeing that you sent Boardsort a lil more scrap, I think it would be safe to say we are comparing $40 to $91. Now, without pulling out my calculator I would have to say $91 looks a lil better here. If this test is as authentic and accurate as you describe, there is no confusion here!

would it be better to send the boards in with the gold fingers attached or remove the gold fingers and send them in separate? I don't have a safe space to do the chemical treatment on and gold pieces.
@moosescrapper59288 жыл бұрын
+Kyle Smith I think that you will make the most money if you cut the fingers off and sel them on ebay as the market seem sto be way over inflated there for gold bearing stuff like that. The rest can be sold to online refining companies like boardsort, cashforcomputerscrap, etc.

@moosescrapper59289 жыл бұрын

I had 5 boxes of motherboards sent in to cashforelectronicscrapusa.com. The measured weight. including at least 6lb of boxes. was 114lb. I got $73. I'm pretty sure I got a third of what I was due but I didn't pay shipping so I'm a bit unhappy but not sure what I'd do about it.
@moosescrapper59289 жыл бұрын
+C Bolton That is a tough one.... with others you would need to pay for shipping. five 20lb boxes would most likely have cost quite a bit to send in though...
@cb50119 жыл бұрын
+Moose Scrapper That's why I tried them out with just this. USPS quote on shipping was like $90 so if I had gotten $2 a pound elsewhere, I'd still be at over $110. This was disappointing but I'll deal with it. I've got a lot of HD boards, CD-Rom boards, and PCI cards to send out, I'll just try someone else I guess.

so brother and I sent two bigger boxes of e-waste to a company which we've been doing business with for a few months now I feel there honest, but we sent it through the post office one package has been lost no one knows about this package we shipped almost a month ago. wtf no matter who we talk to no one knows any thing. that's 200 bucks I'm screwed out of. I've got local people I can stay with. I get paid far less but I'm getting paid. i'm sure ups or fed ex would love getting my money for delivery. I'm pissed
@moosescrapper59288 жыл бұрын
Yeah, tracking is cheap and totally worth it. So is insurance on the package. For the bigger stuff, I have been dealing with fedex, they seem to have their act more together than USPS sometimes.
@silverado7088 жыл бұрын
there is no insurance on the package which is my fault I wanted to be cheap that day and it bit me in the back side. there is a ups location about 3 miles from our pad and we've had good luck there and will do business with them again. as far as fedex to me they seem so expensive on shipping that and being a Minnesota resident the closest location for fedex is 8 miles away and its located in fargo,nd so yeah that's my thing. have you tried cash for computer scrap yet? prices went up two days ago I like them
