I really love this girl. Since I saw Meredith Graves in a StileLikeU video, I just feel that's she's saying and doing all the things I fight for and all the problems we girls (cis and trans) we have in the punk scene and in all different scenes. This riot grrrl comeback gives me life. I hope we can do this in Spain too. Btw I'm really fan of this channel, you are doing a great work.

What resonated with me was where Meredith spoke of basically letting herself be emotionally bare and in a very visceral way and feeling like that was something to be shared and a way to connect and allow others the space to be equally expressive.

The musician who has meant the most to me, by far, is Halina Heron. They are a non-binary indie folk singer/songwriter. I found her work through a video game they made a soundtrack for, and then I started communicating with her on twitter, and eventually through email. We kind of became pen pals and fairly good friends, and she helped me through some of my most difficult times. Their music is as amazing as they are, too. Sad songs written and sung nearly perfectly, very relaxing, and when I don't have any way to talk to a friend when I need help, I can always listen to her music. Between just communicating with them and listening to their music, Halina helped me live through episodes that I don't think I would have gotten through otherwise. And for that, I am forever grateful to her.

Kate Nash was my biggest influence (and still is) when I was about 15-16 years old. She introduced me to feminism and exposed me to a whole new world where women were coming together to like fight stereotypes, sexism, over-sexualized women, etc etc so that also opened doors to sexual identity and through it all I met people who have similar ideas and we have grown to be people who like want to be educated and help each other and who are always trying to like influence younger girls because just like we needed it back then in 2007-2008 many girls need it now. This was an awesome episode btw! It'd be great to have like part 2!

The most important music genres for me are indie and a lot of folk. I think it's less of a connection to my queerness itself, but there's something magical about these-often very raw and emotional-songs that helped me get through tough times (feeling like not fitting in, hating being gay, self harm,...) and always calms me down somehow. d-_-b

One of the music genres I've gotten into a whole lot in the past five years is Shoegaze and Dreampop. They allow me to know that it's ok to be soft, non-aggressive, and appreciate beauty. Also, the bands are usually very gender-balanced.

I relate to this alot. Coming across riot grrrl movement was life changing for me. I remember starting to listen to the Runaways and finding about it. It was eye opening to me since I was used to only seeing men in punk. I think as a women we are told to not express our anger and that we have to look cute and hot for men. Bands like Bikini Kill made me realize I have the right to be my own person. My younger self would never have thought I would be playing electric guitar and be able to express my feelings through punk music as a girl.

In light of recent events, just days after the overturning of Roe vs Wade (it's fucking horrid that I have to even type that) I've started to embrace Riot Grrrl more that I used to. Likewise, I'm currently looking towards newer artists who I can relate to. Finding that in hardcore is difficult. I'm so glad I've found this video, and thus this band. Feminist or feminist leaning bands are underrated, and really always have been. In my opinion, though, punk brings empowerment to those who are marginalized. It gives them a place for catharsis. As a femandrogyne woman, I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have this kind of music and the support of a genuine community, even if I've really only found it online. Thank you for the video! I subscribed!

+Tiff M Thats not cheesy or stupid. You shouldnt be ashamed about it. My Chemical Romance were a great band! My all-time favorite and I would have to say Gerard is my biggest influence too... so we can be stereotypical together haha

I quite enjoy steampunk and bands like Steam Powered Giraffe. For me it intersects with my identity as aroace by being able to express deep emotions that aren't orientated around romance (I have written some songs from the point of view of cyborg or partially mechanised people). When I'm listening to mainstream music, I have to be in the mood to listen to romantic songs because they're not experiences I can usually relate to. However, break up songs I can approach from a different angle because parts of them might be applicable for other kinds of relationships (platonic & familial). Writing from the point of view of a robot or partially robotic person also lets me release some of the tension from being labelled a robot (or unemotional) by parts of society since I don't experience romantic or sexual attraction. I prove to myself that robots, traditionally labelled as emotionless, actually do have feelings, and so reassure myself that I am feeling too, just in a slightly different way to the human "norm".

God this is gonna sound so cheesy, stupid, and honestly stereotypical, but fuck it, the band/musician that's had the biggest influence on me (at least at the moment) is My Chemical Romance/Gerard Way

First off she is NOT Punk!! Punk is The Clash, Sex Pistols, Warsaw, etc. Four chord hard riffs, usually with an anti-establishment theme. They are just yelling about Women Power. No intellectuality, no creativity. Punk music made radio success because it was deeper than average blokes gave it credit for. I mean listen to Police On My Back by The Clash, It's catchy, you can easily sing to it and it's geared not to be intentionally violent but blatantly rebellious. She also can't sing, Punk artists had a unique voice to go with their sound, these feminist punk bands just yell. These chicks are just jealous because guys revolutionized punk and grunge so they have to take it and say no, we do it better. I'm sorry but your not The Buzzcocks, or Bauhaus. Now, yes people start bands to be heard, but most of the best bands are started out of the love and drive to make unique music, i.e. the electronic movement 1977-1981. Punk branched off into Dark Wave, Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, etc. Them and their punk rock counterparts intent was not to demonize woman. It was just to be shocking. Some of my favorite artists are Gay, and Lesbian. but I don't listen to their music because of their sexuality, I listen to it because I like the music. Don't like my opinion, Fine I don't care this is just my opinion. So if you disagree, that's fine. Now as for what inspires me... I'm a straight white Catholic 18yr male. Joy Division Orchestral Manouevres In The Dark The Human League The Cure U2 Depeche Mode Talk Talk Pet Shop Boys Why? I grew up with these guys. They are the reason I'm apart of a Synth-Pop project to combat trash music... Feminist music.

What ever happened to progressive rock (classical/rock fusion jazz/rock). there's afro/punk, there's afro/prog. There's feminist punk and "foxcore", and then.......(crickets......crickets).
