Johnny Angel was my first record ever. Loved this song. Back then we had to wait for reruns to see it again on tv. Shelly had a sweet voice

If it took top back up singers to squeeze the best out of Shelley and get a number one, it is all worth it. She is worth it.

The engineers in the recording studio did their best to make her sound good. Recording the song was done to help the show compete for better ratings at the time.

It didn't hurt that Shelly was such a beautiful young lady... A great song and a great little interview. 🙂

Shelley Fabares was born on January 19, 1944 and celebrated her 80th birthday today, January 19, 2024. She was on "The Donna Reed Show" (1958-1963) and the sitcom "Coach" (1989-1997) which earned her two Primetime Emmy Awards nominations. Her recording of "Johnny Angel" reached number one (#1) on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on April of 1962. It was a certified Gold Record, selling over a million copies. I was in eight grade at Miami Springs Junior High School when this song was popular

coming from a golf outing three guys who didnt play together or know each other got into a van to go back to the hotel. Johnny Angel came on the radio....the driver went to change the channel and all three of us just about in unison yelled out.... dont' touch it! leave it or something....we were all different ages......she was somethig

Shelley could sing; and well. She underestimates herself.
@phila3884 Жыл бұрын
Despite what Phil Ochs said, the funny thing is not that she couldn't sing, it was that she COULD sing. She of the most beautiful natural singing voices of the early rock era- she was just untrained.

Please tell me, are the mom and the singer the same girls? Really, I don't know.
@charles22412 жыл бұрын
No, the mom is Donna Reed. They had similar hairstyles about that time anyway. their eyebrows are almost exactly the same. Donna looked quite young too, with that hairstyle.

Interesting her album sold over 3 million copies and she wasn't really a singer. Did they have autotune back then? I don't think they did but they had other tricks I'm sure.

Sound engineers in the studio can make most anyone sound good, even back then!
@anthonyrobertson20112 жыл бұрын
She could be a singer, she just had no interest in polishing up her ability. Most everyone can sing, it's just a matter of time, training, and work. Which is fine.

She "was raised a very good Catholic girl"? Yeah right!! Probably more like raised as Phoenician Navy. I mean, she did end up marrying Lou Adler. So there you go.
