The water monitoring station should probably be in a small alcove so that you don't have to stand on the running track to operate it.

Aimilar nitpick, i dont like those frame members right on the edge of the outer path, you are just begfing for someone to clip one of those when going all out. The features around the track should be designed with this in mind. If you cant make enough room for people to tumble off the track, at least make the walls smooth amd none aggressive. Move those members outward a bit and where theres a cove or passage, adding a chamfer to the entrance might be worthwhile. Probably padding also, but at least not brutal hard angles made of the strongest materials the 23rd century has to offer.

This is astounding! The running track is a great idea. A place for some rigorous exercise in space would have to be essential on long missions. I recall in one of the TOS Trek novels, it was mentioned that Spock’s quarters had heavier gravity to match his native planet, and that stepping into his quarters felt like stepping down a step. So I would expect the ship to have control of the gravity plating for various reasons. It’s a great idea for the track!

Awesome work this far. It's definitely a great amount of work. Beautiful build. I hope I'll live to see its completion. I died last August from a heart issue. I'm having more surgery this week. I love your progress! You should consider adding some bleechers on Deck 8, leading all the way up to Deck 7, creating a two-level amphitheater at the Start/Finish line of the running track. This would allow for competitions with an audience. On the far side of the track would be a huge viewscreen, so the audience can see the runners when they're out of view of the bleechers. Behind the bleechers, a corridor leading around Deck 7 to Sickbay, with angled windows on the inboard side, could create an observation gallery down into the arboretum, like the one that wraps around the hangar deck.

Love your attention to detail! Having the fresh water tanks around the outer rim creates a combat maneuverability problem, however. Water is massive, and putting all that mass around the rim creates huge moment of inertia issues whenever the ship attempts to pitch, roll or yaw. Centrally located tanks would increase maneuverability, and provide extra natural radiation shielding for the sick bay and medical section. Maybe have escape pods line the track, or storage for dehydrated food replicator stock -- astronaut ice cream and such?

I’m loving these updates. The idea of variable gravity for the running track is a great idea, as you mention it could be used for more advanced physical training but also for rehabilitation after surgery. What I really love is that every idea you have put forward has been intelligently thought out, not just put there to fill a gap. Utilising spaces is a big thing regardless of the size of the actual vehicle, and your ideas of what should be there and why is fantastic! Can’t wait to see the next update vid!

The running track is terrific, but the water monitoring station being open to the track makes little sense. Also, the track should be relatively isolated, meaning there should be no cross traffic to enter the center area, although there should be access to the track from the center area. I think you said you plan on the center area being a recreational/arboretum area, which I think is great. In fact, on a technical level, a portion of the water storage should circulate through pipes to a stream that feeds a small pond/mini-lake and waterfall/water fearure (doesn't have to be a working one!). Maybe the track area that surrounds this track area has transparent walls so runners can see recreational area and people in the recreational area can see the runners. Access from the track area to the recreational area should include one that passes through a shower dressing area that is part of a small gymnasium, sauna, pool, etc. Perhaps the mini-lake pond supports swimming, but there should definitely be a seperate pondvl water feature area that is just for relaxation and ambiance. A small cave/rock climbing feature would also be a nice touch. Maybe the area, in theme park fashion is divided into areas that are are made to resemble Class M Federation worlds, like Earth (of course), Alpha Centuri, and Rigel 4. These are my humble comments and suggestions. You are doing a terrific job. As long as you apply the same practical approach and logic you have been following all along, whatever you decide on will ultimately be fine. It is a huge task. Don't let anything get in your way. Your project is very inspiring. Thank you for sharing! And, as always, the best of luck and much success!

i love the idea of the running track. Absolutely fitting. I don't think the water monitoring station would be designed to encroach onto the track, though - particularly given the brilliant idea of variable gravity per track. It's maintenance, so perhaps flip the side of the wall that's used, or an indent with a barrier and access not requiring crossing the track. Something that might encroach is some bio-archways to run through and be scanned while running, with a technician area on the inside of the track. Given the access to fresh water - some dramatic tropical fish tanks in view of the runners and medical floor gap? That would be fitting given the park-like feel that'll come from the trees and research.

The running track with variable gravity makes so much sense for this era of ship (as such facilities cannot be created in a holodeck). And to incorporate it into the perimeter of the arboretum deck is an excellent use of space. You've mentioned the in-patient sickbay rooms looking down into the arboretum before and I love the idea. I wish such consideration was given in the set design of the TV series (at least in The Next Generation era). I'm not yet a patron, but I hope to secure my quarters aboard your ship one day soon. You really are inspiring. I want to transition my own personal project from CAD drawing to physical model, but I don't think I'll ever make it to KZbin. Keep up the good work, Mr. Trek.

Bloody amazing! I love that you've taken some creative licence with what has to be one of the most iconic starships in the history of television and made her seem even more realistic and desirable. I'm sure Mr Roddenberry would be over the moon with your ideas and even now, I can just see Kirk and Spock going for their routine morning jog around that running track, talking crew rotas, upcoming missions, foibles of diplomacy etc. One thing I would say, I agree with other comments regarding the fresh water monitoring station. I think a full alcove rather than a recessed area would be a better idea. Perhaps a console for monitoring the fresh water storage tanks one side and environmental controls for the recreation area the other? At the end of the day, that's just a suggestion. It's your project, your vision of this wonderful starship and you've done a bloody amazing job so far. Live long and prosper!

Another awesome video. This channel is so much FUN! :-) As for your "non-canon" ideas like the running track, I think it's fantastic that you're injecting thoughtful and creative new ideas into this ship. When I look at "official diagrams" of these Trek ships, a lot of the rooms seem quite bland, generic, grey, and unimaginative, like they're just trying to fill the decks with junk. So I'm all in favor of you injecting new life into this ship and turning it into a place that people would actually enjoy living. Having said all that - I wouldn't want you to mess with any layouts that are well-known and firmly established in the show. I hope you are drawing heavy inspiration from Franz Joseph's 1974 deck plans, which were approved by Roddenberry. I believe these were incomplete though. I hope you're also drawing inspiration (where necessary) from the excellent 3D interior model on the "Halfscreen" KZbin channel, which has the bowling alley at the bottom. When you showcase new rooms/features in your videos, I think viewers would always find it interesting to know if these have been invented by you, or if they come from official sources like the Franz Joseph plans. As for you showing the process of construction, I agree it would be limiting to your production as you'd have to constantly be thinking about cameras, lighting, keeping things still, not to mention all the extra storage and editing it would require.

love the running track idea, not opposed to a pool, or bowling lanes, but this just makes so much more sense, space usage-wise, and the water storage tankage outside of this, given the severe angle of the outer hull here, also is a great use of space, I DO have one thought regarding that inner circular area, just to deliniate this from the track lanes, perhaps two (and no more) steps at the green inside ring up to that central area, also might serve to create some visual interest as well as separation of functions, just a thought

Hi Mike, regarding the running track concept.... 1 - This is a phenomenal concept because without space for exercise and workout, the body atrophies. Even on the International Space Station, the astronauts have a treadmill, rowing, and other exercise equipment to maintain condition. You are spot on. 2 - I noticed that there was no starting line or finish line. Would it be possible to demarcate 100, 200, relay distance lines on the flooring? Is it possible to estimate the precise placement of starting points and ending points for standard track and field running competition starting blocks and the finish line?

It looks like you're going off the Franz Josef Star Trek blueprints (which is very cool! I would pore over them for hours when I was a kid), but with some of your own ideas added - also very cool. Two things I thought of in regard to the ship design, in the blueprints there are several large computer "data banks" (so quaint ). I think it possible - just judging by my cel phone - that computers need not be so huge, even considering the sheer massive size of Google data centers. I also thought that carrying and storing water in conformal tanks all over the ship made more sense than having more centralized water tanks that would require an amazing amount of plumbing to get the water where it was needed. I think it makes more sense to distribute it around just below the outer skin of the ship, AND it could also provide some amount of radiation shielding. Just AMAZING work!

My main concern with a running track that is a continuous circle goes back to my father's military service. as part of his service he had to maintain physical fitness and the only available facility at one of the places he was stationed required them to do their PT test in a gym. As a result of that, he eventually wound up with a service related injury to his knee that required multiple surgeries and still gives him pain. This was a direct result of running repeatedly in a circle under strain.

I'm sure Dr McCoy and 23rd century medical technology can work those issues out ;-)

Interesting idea for the operating room in the centre of Sickbay! The Franz Joseph deck plans had that location as the Emergency Bridge, presumably you have relocated that to another deck?

Could the water tanks double as swimming pools and/or aquariums? I'm sure 23rd century filtration systems could make such a concept viable :)

You know? I kinda think that I'd like to build a 1:25 scale model of the real original 1799 schooner USS Enterprise. It wasn't just any USS Enterprise but the most legendary real USS Enterprise ever to exist. Built in 1799, it battled the French and then played a part in the founding of the United States Navy during the first Barbary war (winning the first US victory of that war in Tripoli). After that, and a refit upgrading it from a schooner to a bark, it went on to one of the most legendary and successful careers battling pirates in the Caribbean, capturing eight ships and liberating eleven American ships from captivity. Her commanding officer, Lieutenant Andrew Sterett, should be more famous than Captain James T. Kirk! I want that TV series, not another Star Trek or yet another remake of Horatio Hornblower. Somebody, please make make a 1799 USS Enterprise TV series happen! 🙏🏼

The track is nice. Here's something else to consider for using some other free space. Transporters/Replicators cannot make something out of nothing. They can move objects and they can transform objects. The Food replicators must rely on some stockpile of raw carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sodium, potassium etc in order to manufacture food into various patterns. Even water. Must there not be an "element supply" storage area to provide raw material for replicating food and water? It would also integrate with air recycling to augment Life Support systems.

@mrtrek2117 Ай бұрын
Thanks for the input and ideas. Indeed there will be raw material storage bays on the ship ;-)

Whereas i love the ideas your adding here, have you seen the deck plans out there on the net? Space is at a premium on the ship, with various mechanicals in there. Wasnt the computer core going through the central core of the saucer?
@mrtrek2117
@mrtrek2117 Ай бұрын
I bought the FJ and FASA plans over 20 years ago and after years of studying them with fascination I also found they are incredibly flawed. Space is not at a premium on board the Enterprise, it's a huge ship. Also when the FJ and FASA plans were created your smart phone was the size of a sofa and the laptop was the size of a room. I'm recreating the Enterprise and while staying true to the look and the feel of the ship we saw on the show I am updating the computer systems which frees up a huge amount of space.

ok, one more comment, regarding the transporter room directly above the track lanes, someone more knowledgeable may correct me but I believe the transporters have some of the necessary equipment and machinery both above, and below the transporter pads themselves, requiring more space than is provided by the deck thickness, honestly, I'm not certain on this but it might be worth looking into, love your new studio space by the way, but I'll miss the flooring in your current space
@mrtrek2117

Again thanks for the input, I point out that the deck 8 model is not finished yet, there will indeed be functions for the transporter that are above and below the transporter room itself ;-)
