I've been playing around with this idea: what on earth gives players incentive to remain stealthy? It always gets old unless the player has a vested interest in Role Playing. So I wonder what mechanics can enforce this mechanic as a reward?

What makes stealth enjoyable for me, is using the game's tools and items to mess with the NPCs. I'll replay my favorite segments in MGS and Deus Ex without even trying to progress, just making life hell for the AI. I think it adds a lot of replay value as well. However, I don't think I want to force stealth as the "right" way to play either. I want outright combat to be just as fun and valid as approaching objectives with stealth. It's a big challenge though.

Really enjoyed this. On crouch-walking... I'm guilty of crouch-walking at ALL times. Because it's simply the superior form of movement (when you are the one physically doing it.) It feels like a cop-out - In MGS4, Snake would start to complain about his back after so much crouching! Which, caused me to do it less, and spend more time either standing/prone.

Lol, Kojima is a master with those kinds of details.
