Great video , I was inspired to do the same. I did a few things differently. I bought the 4 plywoods in oak and had them cut them in half at home depot and had (8)(8’ x 2’ x 3/4”) They are currently drying and I’m going to purchase some veneer to go around the edges. I used a roller for the wood glue and stacked them all on top of one another over a piece of foam insulation that’s dad had lying around. Clamped them starting from the middle, because that’s what my dad said to do. Now my hardware was 440.28 with the fall sale they had recently. 408 for the wood and wood glue Veneer is gonna be the next thing I buy. EDIT: I just realized I messed up, the headboard is 30" and I cut all the pieces at 24"

Awesome video I'm going to be doing basically the same. You glued two 3/4" sheets together (4 boards total)? Could I use maple for the top surface and something less expensive for the underside? What were the dimensions of your panels? I'm doing a king bed frame and would like a few extra inches at the top for a wedge pillow headboard. Thank you for the help!
@bexarbuilds
@bexarbuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, 4 sheets work for the queen size because it has 3 bed platform panels and a headboard. The king size will need 5 sheets for 4 platform panels and a headboard. You can cut the 5th sheet hot dog style to get two 2’x8’ panels and glue those up to make the headboard. You would still need to cut the headboard down to it’s specified size which can be found via the link at the bottom of my comment. As for using a different material for your underside of panel, you absolutely can as long as your total panel thickness is 1.5” thick. Different material might make the veneer look two-toned but in theory it would work. My apologies for the delayed response. www.dimensions.com/element/floyd-platform-bed

@bexarbuilds

Honestly, I didn't do anything to secure the mattress down. My client hasn't mentioned any issues of it sliding to me. The hardware doesn't come up above the top of the bed surface much but they might be able to help hold the mattress in place.
@ahernandez9621

@@bexarbuilds I bought a platform bed for my daughter, which used two-sided adhesive on alternating boards to keep the mattress from slipping. I doubt the mattress slips much, unless you have kids jumping on it constantly. I'd rather let it slip as it helps me move the mattress around more easily to change the linen. I'm not worried about it slipping while I flail about during sleep, only to find myself on the floor in the morning.

5 sheets of plywood instead of 4. Glue up 2 sets of two sheets to make 4 panels and cut the last sheet of plywood in half lengthwise and glue those two pieces together. @bexarbuilds 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! I have no doubt the plywood will stay stable. I could have also added some 1” screws from the bottom of the panels for extra support but the bed will be fine with the wood glue. What kind of door panels were you thinking of using?
@ruicastro5777
@ruicastro5777 3 жыл бұрын
@@bexarbuilds Thank you for your answer :). I was thinking of perhaps a hollow door panel like this www.lowes.com/pd/Masonite-Traditional-Unfinished-Flush-Hollow-Core-Veneer-Slab-Door-Common-24-in-x-80-in-Actual-24-in-x-80-in/1000056089. Dimensions are good. I used this before as a working desktop and they are great. This Floyd structure does not require screws, the whole mattress and body weight is distributed evenly, and the doos panels put to work together with the belt. Therefore it seemed a reasonable possibility to me. What do you think? Thank you!
@bexarbuilds
@bexarbuilds 3 жыл бұрын
@@ruicastro5777 The only problem I would probably have with it is the fact that it’s a hollow core door. I know the edges are reinforced which is really where you need most of the strength, I’m just not too sure about the strength of the middle of the door. The specs of the door says it has a depth of 1.375” which I think would be fine because the hardware has a clearance of 1.5” for the panels. I’d still recommend plywood but no harm in trying the doors especially at that price.
