Makunga - 'Muziki'

Makunga is from Dodoma and the Wagogo Community, which they argued is the main indigenous community of Tanzania (always from the land, never migrated into Tanzania. The group was formed in 2018, but was built on a much older group. They perform in the Wuyina style. Their instruments/costumes include the: Ndulele (Horn), the Nindo (Shakers), the Mbega: (Animal Skins), the Muheme (Drums), the Kabati (Shakers), the Kalimba (Thumb Piano), the Zeze (Orutu), the Izeze (5 string large instrument), and the Muhongwa (Wooden water troughs, played on ground like calabash, which was used in last song). Makunga Traditional Music Group originates from Nyati Group formed by the late Mchoya Malogo, the famous Wagogo Musician in 1969. Makunga was formed due to management conflict of interest in 2015 immediately after the death of Mchoya. The Nyati and Makunga are based in Nzali Village in Chamwino District in Dodoma Region. I stand to promote Wagogo musics as part of African extraordinary traditional music. Within the two Groups, I formed the Wagogo queens of Drums in 2003 consisting six ladies (Manzila, Halima, Kasuga, the late Janeth and Magreth) these form the African Queens of Drums I lead to perform in Germany in 2003. The second group formed by Stella, Joyce, Manzila and Jeni out of others. Recently, Emmanuel, Moina (Kasunzuwajira), Yohana the soloist, Jonathan and Yohana the senior) have joined to elevate Makunga. The ladies forming the Wagogo Queens of Drums (WQD) had previously in Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Germany in 2008. With Nyati Group before it was split, we traveled to Spain going around the country from Cordoba to Pamplona. They use instruments including: Ndulele (Horn), the Nhindo (Shakers) also known as one style of music, the Mbega: (Long animal skins), the Muheme (Drums) also known as another style of music played by ladies, the Kabati (Shakers), the Kalimba (Thumb Piano), the Zeze (Orutu in Luo) or Izeze (5 string large instrument made by the guard or calabash and lizard skin), and the Muhongwa (Wooden water troughs, played on ground like calabash).
