I think you will find that in 1995 this video was released by the Japanese showing them wooping the F1, and funny old thing in 1996 a year later, the Mcclaren guys decided to join the JGTC league for the very first time with the Mcclaren F1. Funny Coincidence that!!. Anyway despite the JGTC officials adding a couple of hundred plus kilograms of ballast weight to the the Mcclaren F1 it proceeded to destroy all of the Japanese cars on the grid and won pretty much everything with the exception of 2 of the 6 championships where the Mcclaren retired for whatever reason. The Mcclaren F1 set lap records for every single track! I should say the Mcclaren owners saw this very video along with gordon murray and were pissed. They obviously won the overall JGTC that year but the following year JGTC really chucked there teddys out of the pram and added some very severe restrictions to the car to try and make it more fair. Mcclaren decided they would not bother after that. Did what they came to do in 96 so they were happy.

It’s incredible that this needs to be explained but apparently looking at the comments section it does. The F1 was an essentially priceless piece of kit that was borrowed and driven as such. Yes it’s the fastest thing out there, yes you’d expect that at 20 times the cost of everything else. The only surprising thing in this video is they had the balls to take it out at all on a soaking wet circuit with multiple other vehicles with a very real chance of a collision and a 6000 mile trip to the UK to get anyone to look at it for any kind of repairs.

It's so wet the type of tyres you have and and four wheel drive matter a lot more than more power and light weight. Most hyper cars are fair weather cars. The Mclaren no doubt has tyres designed for optimal dry performance simply because of the extremes of its performance. All that power cannot reach the road without wheelspin. Less weight advantage is wiped out in heavy rain. At these low cornering speeds with no downforce and lower mass on each tyre pressing it down. You have a less stable car.

I agree that F1 would beat all of them. But, in this video, he tried his best. since this track(Tsukuba Circuit) only has short straights, F1 can't cool 600hp V12 properly. Plus F1 doesn't have ABS or Traction control. That means controlling 600hp on wet roads would be very hard. And, during and after the race, the driver was saying he gave up competing with them and started slowing down since oil temp was getting too hot and started concerning about engine. He couldn't risk it because in 1995 F1 cost around $850,000
@ragnarok7452 Жыл бұрын
My only complain is that they should have done this test on dry tracks. There are already very few tests for F1 on dry tracks. If the track was dry F1 would have beat those Ferraris and Porsches.
@realbiscuitshield Жыл бұрын
F1 would've beaten all those cars easily if its driver was any good. Either he wasn't giving his all, or he lacks racing talent. I dub him the Captain Slow of Japan lol

@@realbiscuitshield they are obviously scared of as much as putting a scratch on the cars and the driver of the F1 obviously feels this the most. Don't blame him for having to drive a car that costs as much as the price of all the other cars in the race combined. However I agree that the F1 is the stronger car, only the tuned NSX might've been a rival to it (assuming serious competition in dry conditions).
@内田ガネーシュ Жыл бұрын
@@realbiscuitshield Native here, let me tell you what the driver for F1says at the end. He gave up completely after he had a bad launch. And competing in the race, because the outcome of crashing and possibly having the engine destroyed, was not worth it, it was playing out in his head since the start and the first corner. To save the car during such conditions he immediately surrendered the position (and played it safe). Personally, I'd say, I agree with him, I would have played it safe, too. Especially trying to overtake that Supra.
@realbiscuitshield Жыл бұрын
@@内田ガネーシュ Thank you for the explanation. I don't speak Japanese, so I can't understand what they're saying during the race. I also agree that playing safe is the sensible option, it just sucks too see the legendary F1 lose like that.

soft suspension and no abs in wet. This is the road going version so not stiff like the racing version
@chubbytroll5321Ай бұрын
ATTESA-ETS AWD gave a pretty significant advantage in the wet. Tires are also a factor, as is the amount of power that comes from the F1. In a small, tight, technical track like Tsukuba, having that much power in the rain becomes tougher to modulate without traction control, without ABS. I wouldn't blame Hattori trying to go easy on a car that costed $970,000 Things might have gone differently had they ran Suzuka or Fuji Speedway. Also should be noted that R33 was a tuned version by Esprit, and as well as the tuned Supra from Veilside. At 23:30, you'll see that they go over horsepower ratings after running the dyno (with the omission of testing the Mclaren F1). Had conditions been dry, the F1 could lap Tsukuba in the 1 min. 4 seconds, which pretty much beats out all the other cars in this episode's roster.

It the fastest in a strait line, but the standard model have a very soft (for a supercar) suspension. So it suffers against models with suspensions better adjusted to drive aggressively.
