Great guest, very engaging! Malaysian FoPo isn't on top of most Americans' minds, but she does an excellent job at pinning SEA politics

At this moment, there are American retirees in Malaysia under the MM2H programme who are here to escape the high cost of living stateside while enjoying a comparable standard of living and arguably safer environment in Malaysia. At the same time, there are also PRC citizens here under the same programme with school-age children who are bowled over by an education system where parents actually get a say in how things run versus a rigidly state-controlled system. The case of Malaysia with respect to the "Great Powers" has changed considerably in recent years, and I wonder whether traditional security think-tankers keep their eyes on the so-called "non-traditional security" aspects.

I laughed pretty hard when they were talking about Gaza & the guy said. "Hopefully there's a way out of it".😂 Only way out of supporting genocide is waiting for everybody to die & or forget that you supported genocide.

I wasn't expecting Gaza to come up in this conversation. It's good to have the reminder that the US' unconditional support for Israel is a detriment to relations in every theater the US operates in. I understand when Mike said "Sorry, that's not going away" about the human rights/democracy preaching, but it appears hypocritical while the US ignores Israel's attempts at ethnic cleansing (referring here to Israel's policy of bulldozing Palestinian's homes in the West Bank and replacing them with subsidized settlements of Israelis, but obviously Elina had brought up Gaza-- time will tell what Israel's plan is there as Israel certainly will not).

It's like choosing the Zionists over every other Ally they have.
