I like both, Sara. There is so much good food in KL and not expensive, good to see and especially if Mom prefers to eat out. lol. Nice to show some home cooking too, whenever you like. I love seeing you and yr Mom together. Is that yr brother at the end of the vdo?

Since the pandemic we have not eaten out once. had food delivered a few times. I love to eat out because.......I don’t have to do the dishes!!!!! But I do like my own cooking too. And I love watching you and your mom cook!!!! Thank you Sara!

Sara Khong Oh! Thank you for responding to me! I am watching the LaLa video (again) as I eat my oatmeal with berries and a cafe latte breakfast. It is Saturday morning here. I see you are up late! I do a lot of stir fry in my kitchen. I don’t use recipes too much for stir fry. Whatever I have in the fridge will do for me. Although, even though we live in the suburbs of Portland Oregon there are two large Asian supermarkets within a mile radius of our house so getting interesting ingredients for any type of Asian cooking is not a problem. I also like to make stews, and soups and things that will keep in the fridge for a few days so I don’t have to cook constantly. We love French, Italian, Chinese, Indian and food from all over Asia. We were in Kuala Lumpur a few years ago. Just a day trip off a cruise ship. Loved the city and the food. You should offer cooking classes to cruise ship passengers (when cruising comes back) People love to sign up for excursions like that. Looking forward to your next video, out and about or in your kitchen. You and your mom are delightful!

Honestly I enjoy both videos, but I think more importantly I enjoy first seeing the popularity of the dish among locals (eating out) followed by a video to show how we can easily recreate it at home especially for folks like me (Malaysians abroad). Thanks Sara!
@sara_khong4 жыл бұрын
Hi Aleena! Good insight. The lala soup recipe is totally unintentional. So happens that a week after visiting Lai Foong Lala, my Mom came back with fresh clams from her holiday. I'll try to recreate the hawker food at home tho it's going to a be difficult. Most of the food that we like to eat outside are complicated/time consuming hence we don't normally cook at home. As you can see, my Mom prefer to go out nowadays 😂 (we were cooking a lot during the pandemic and she has been doing so for decades!)

Sep 16, 2023. I have a similar dish many years ago in San Francisco Chinatown. The only difference was the Manila clam, since Manila clam is commercially available in almost all grocery stores here in the SF Bay Area, especially in the Asian markets. Your video just reminded me of how good this dish was, and I will cook this the next time I get to an Asian market to get me some clams. Thank you for sharing the video.

@@sara_khong Hi Sara Firstly, sorry for using a pun, (considering what this video was about) your mum has really started to come out of her shell. We are starting to see her personality as her confidence has built and she is a great character in the best and most positive way. She should have her own channel 😄 For me the orgin storyline of where you sourced the la la was compelling. The sourcing of the clams and getting to see the location pics was great. We get to see good food and parts of Malaysia we didn't know existed. The informative tips along with what was a very naturally flowing vid made it greatly enjoyable to watch from stat to finish. It was as good as anything on mainstream television. Great work. Great content! Thanks for putting in the hard work and giving us something uplifting to watch.

Sara you have so many interesting dishes to offer people: you should attempt to write a Malaysian cook book. And you do enjoy writing and presenting. Once people get a taste of Malaysian food, with its great diversity of ethnic influences and flavors, they love it. Several new Malaysian restaurants have opened up here in New York City, like Laut and Malay Restaurant, and all of them have been well received.

Hello Marc! I have written a few cookbooks. But I'll love to write another one when I have the time. I want it to be my favourite cookbook of all time haha. Oh, yes I've about Malaysian restaurants in New York. So happy to know that people around the world are enjoying our food. It's really very unique with so many different ethnic influences. Have you been to Malaysia?

Hi, when your lala shrinked as presented, you have missed the golden taste of its sea freshness by over cooking it- since you add cold stock and bringing it to boiled that derailed a perfectly nice dish. Try again and see the difference. Go for middle well for the lala. Tks for bearing my 2 cents.
