If we try to access iptv or torrenting websites, we are redirected to a useless page stating that the website is blocked. Some ISPs hide the DHCP options so that you cannot change the default dns servers. We can still use 3rd party dns servers by configuring them manually on each device. 3rd party routers are also not an option because ISPs removed the option to put their router in bridge mode and they don't provide the required configuration to use your own fiber transceiver. Not really. The internet in the PRChina IS the Communist Party's internet, the ISPs just lease time on the physical structure of it. In theory Malaysia's changes won't impact DNS usage outside of their ban lists, in China private DNSs don't really work since the actual external internet exchanges have to resolve the IPs. Obviously private VPNs still work in China, until China detects the address which leads me to... You get petty active probing across external connections on the Chinese internet (8.8.8.8 may as well be the public honeypot), and the CCP has been known to scrape TOR and VPN addresses by packet snooping, to then man-in-the-middle or block the address. You have to give it to China. If I read 1984 just before I was hooking up an authoritarian hell-hole to the internet, it's exactly how I'd go about it.
@smalltime02 ай бұрын
@@sango_wilko851 It's more nefarious than that. China let's known address work, it wants to know what you're trying to do when you're connecting to cloudfare (for example) are you trying to establish a VPN connection? are you trying to access a webpage? Who else is connecting, are they sending anything that can be keyword searched? It's very impressive shit.

I'm a Malaysian. The one who wanted to introduce this was the Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission (MCMC), under the leadership of Fahmi Fadzil, its Minister. I was one of the people against it. We fought hard and got the government to "U-turn" their decision, but its still quite scary. It was done all of a sudden without our permission. Banning even legitimate websites. Also, the PAS party and Sanusi 11:40 is the type of party and politician that is pro supremacy. They won the first election by stealing the government and destroying democracy during the covid pandemic. Used covid as a means to steal millions and later using the social media platform with the millions that they stole to incite hate among the Muslim towards the non-Muslims to win their state election. Sanusi's government (when was in power) arrested and jailed working class people for talking against the royalty, and he goes and does the same thing and cried foul when people questioned him. Trust me, supporting Sanusi is like supporting Elizabeth Warren or Gary Gensler from the SEC. You only know if you are here in the country.

As a Malaysian, thank you for covering this Louis. They have backed down for now due to strong opposition. This was extremely concerning when it was announced (and it was indeed implemented by a few ISPs last few weeks as their dateline to comply was end of September). The Malaysian government as policy blocks a lot of websites and the easiest way to bypass it was by using an public DNS. If they went through with the public DNS rerouting, bypassing the censorship would have been a lot harder. The irony being, some of the parties in the current ruling coalition were in Opposition in the past. Back then they have urged the public to use alternate public DNS as a way to bypass censorship by previous administrations. But now they are in power their administrations wants to block this method of bypassing blocked websites. It's extremely ironic.

It is still chill compared to other countries. Thou politics nowadays publicly use more dirty techniques by silencing the other sides. Also regarding dns redirection, some telco already did this for a year already. To be honest most other countries already implemented this dns redirection without publicly announcing it. But Malaysia government decision to publicly announce this backfired. Many people don't even know what dns is.. and most will not set it up anyway. So it will default to ISP dns. This dns redirection makes changing dns useless unless u use secure dns. So if ur set dns on router lvl or even on device lvl, if it not using secure dns protocol, u basically still use ISP dns. Non secure dns inquiry can be read in plain text by ISP.. so they can redirect it. Secure DNS protocol will avoid this from happening. People are just living under the rock in terms of being anonymous in the online world. To be honest this dns redirection did some gud also.. some people may falsely assume their online inquiry safe (gambling site, 18+ sites) from snooping by ISP because they can access it by changing dns while still using non secure dns.🤣🤣🤣
