Yeah I hear a lot of people claim that Melania used the Scarlet Aronia because she was loosing, but there is zero in-game evidence for that. I think the Sword Monument next to the Aeonian swamp puts it best, both were in a stalemate, then Malenia used the Aeonia which caused both her and Radahn to be incapacitated. Melania would be dragged to safety by Finlay, and Radahn would fall to the ailment afterwards. There was no winner, and noone was going to win.

Highly debatable about the third bloom but not important to my overall point. Also, Finlay did die, clearly, since we get her ash. Not immediately, however, as all of her cleanrot knights were already infected with the rot, but its progress was slowed by all the unalloyed gold they wear.

Radahn would likely eat Malenia, kill her, and then still gradually suffer rot eating away at him. Same result but with Malenia dead pretty much. Id say its a stalemate if you consider losing your sense of self as death but if death is the immediate losing condition then malenia would lose and die first if not for finlay's intervention

Think for five seconds about it, would you? If he has to ACTIVELY hold back the stars then, what happens to the stars when he goes to sleep? You're left with two answers: 1- you'd have to assume that Radahn never sleeps since you claim that he requires so much strength to hold them back, because if he went to sleep, the stars would party. 2- the obvious conclusion that holding back the stars became a passive ability; not an active one as Radahn simps can't shut up about. I love Radahn, but I'm not blinded by a giga-chad self-insert fantasy. So in short, the impressive thing about Radahn isn't that he just holds the stars, it's the fact that he got so good at it that he can do it in his sleep, or even when his wits are gone. We the tarnished hand out her first official L. She has a literal transformation that’s not even in its final form. CgWorld Vol.286 Magazine says she was fatigued up against a prime Radahn and the fact that she went blow for blow with him while FATIGUED in the story trailer speaks volumes.. Crystal clear narrative implications and facts on who’s stronger > fan favorite character in the community that gets to much benefit of the doubt and wanked into oblivion.

I notice a lot of westerners have this notion that when she blooms it means she died which is unironically a very western perspective when that is not necessarily true. Malenia’s internal conflict is heavily based on eastern spirituality and the aeonian lotus is symbolic of this, through struggle not necessarily death or defeat the lotus blooms through the murky/muddy waters in eastern spirituality. So the fact she managed to fight him to a standstill while fatigued THEN bloom (which is even stated on the sword monument near the aeonia swamp) is actually insane.

I think that's a silly thing to say. That the stars are easy to hold. A person who has their arm locked upright holding something of great weight is holding the same weight regardless of them being alive or dead. At the end of the day, it's their bones who will have to give out from literal rot in order have the arm collapse and the weight fall. It doesn't mean the weight was light, it means the bone was strong. With this said, I think STARS are on the weightier side in regards to weights.

She had to bloom for the second time to save herself from Radahan, so what saved her was in fact her status as a empyrean but all it did was change her defeat to a stalemate. Also technicaly she isn't the only demigod to become a full god, in the Age of Stars Ranni also becomes a god and our character becomes her Lord.

@@Brandonious15987 She could seemingly bloom at any time you are right there but she was unconcoius after her second bloom against Radahan and only after her third against the player she became a Goddes of Rot meaning she (most likely) was incapable of becoming the Godess at that time. Ranni does become a god we know it because she takes Marikas place and changes the order to how she sees fit but she isn't a god for the Greater Will, we know that she was chosen by the Greater Will to become it's new god (just like seemingly Malenia was chosen by the God of Rot) because she had a shadow created for her by the Greater Will just like Marika (something that is never mentioned for Malenia and Miquella) but she rebelled and cut herself of from it, in her ending she takes Marikas place as the God of the Order either for the Dark Moon (if you belive it is a outer god) or just for herself against the Greater Will (if the Dark Moon isn't an outer god), she then takes the Tarnished as her Elden Lord and they go toghether with her order "Into fear, doubt, and loneliness... As the path stretcheth into darkness." At least this is what always made sense to me because Marika disapears and Ranni is able to change the order down to it's fundations. Edit: Changed one small thing I kept talking about "golden order" when I meant the Greater Will. Don't know how I made that mistake.

She could have passed out because blooming is to much or she could have passed out from her wounds from the fight from Radahn. I'm just saying if full blown godess Malenia fought Radahn, I still bet on her even if Radahn wasn't holding back the stars. Malenia could have bloomed 3 times before the fight started if she wanted to. I don't think Ranni is ever confirmed as a god. I don't think being a god is required to do what Ranni does in that ending. She is an empyrean with a lord but that was a standard made by the golden order. Her whole thing was breaking the golden orders control.

Its quite possible, that he didn't want to nuke half a continent and his own soldiers in collateral damage. If we compare Malenia's bloom in game and Radahn's meteor. You can clearly see how much more damage Radahn can do. Also fun fact. The meteor is the second strongest single attack in the game, the strongest being astel's grab.........one of the creatures because of whom Radahn held back the stars.

Radahn was known as the "Mightiest Demigod" for a reason. Also, it's worth noting that Radahn's soldiers are still all over the place in Caelid, whereas Malenia's army has what, like 6 survivors still alive there? He was stronger and his army was stronger. And also more admirable and honorable, given that even after losing their minds they still fight to keep the scarlet rot contained. She's got literally nothing on him. It's also worth noting that in the intro cutscene we see her, on her knees, with Radahn standing over her with his arms crossed, just waiting for her to put her arm that was presumably smashed off in the fight back on. He literally took off her arm and then just waited for her to put it back on instead of killing her when he very clearly had the opportunity. He lost to his sense of honor.

Points and questions I have: -I think there is to little context and info to give a confident answer to this debate. People are making to many assumptions. I think both are cool and am more curious how Godfrey compares. -We only see the beginning and end of the fight between the two. You can tell this by the positioning of Radahn's sword swings that the moments we see are not the same, meaning, we haven't seen the whole fight and cannot clearly say who was dominating. We also don't see the lead up to their faceoff.(*From the game trailer) -A Sword monument tells us: "The Battle of Aeonia. Radahn and Malenia locked in stalemate. Then, the scarlet rot blooms". To me this indicates that neither side was dominating and the SA nuke is what broke it. -People complain about Malenia's use of Rot as cheating but seem to ignore Mogh's powers, granted by the Formless Mother, or Maliketh, using Destined Death(which is not his own power). I personally think its all fair game. -People always mention Radahn "holding back the stars" as an indication of his "true' power and that he is "nerfed". Problem is, the game never tells us what impact Radahn's feat has on him, and the only thing we actually know for sure is Radahn is using gravity magic to hold back the stars. What are "stars" btw? Not actual gas giants bc the planet would have been torn apart from the gravity of that many stars moving at once, and, that's not what falls and creates the crater in game. More likely, stars are meteorites or cosmic monsters like Astel's and Falling STAR Beasts(the word stars is often used to refer to cosmic beasts). The other problem is, we don't know what kind of gravity spell Radahn used to halt the stars and the workings of that spell. Since we are talking about MAGIC, with all its ambiguous context, this feat hard to quantify. I don't think Radahn, if he wasn't holding back the stars, would be this all powerful god level being that people claim he would be. That wouldn't make sense in the context of Elden Ring's story & narrative for him to be such an extreme outlier.

Technically malenia lost to radahn First of all she blooms only when she is near death in other words radahn killed her and then she just got up again and bloomed in his face which caused him to get the rot... But that's the thing malenia fainted after that which means radahn still fought when he was rotted and beat defeated her again but couldn't finish her because of the rot or because her army protected her by stabbing him in the back with their spears.... They then dragged her away back to the haligtree Radahn getting rotted is technically not defeat he still won the fight with her and quite possibly twice he just ended up getting the rot from her which is the equivalent of winning a fight but your wounds getting infected and dying in a medieval fight... You will still be remembered as the victor despite the fact your wounds got infected and you died

And as for winning the war, saying Radahn won is laughable to say the least when the cleanrot knights are said to be celebrated for their undefeated campaign in the Shattering. (Cleanrot armor). Redmanes on the other hand were driven to defeat by Malenia's scarlet rot (Redmane Armor). The only reason haligtree faction didn't come out on top in the shattering was because of Miquella's abduction thanks to Mohg. Malenia's only loss came indirectly from Mohg but Radahn did lose everything from Malenia.

​@@jashin888 He doesn't have his purple sparks traveling across his body in the end of the trailer like he does in his 3rd phase, nor does he have his cragblade active as is in his 2nd phase, implying that either those details were made later in development or Prime Radahn was capable of bringing Malenia at least halfway to her demise without being so much as a third of the way defeated before she resorted to using her Æonia. Radahn was pretty clearly the superior swordsman and even faced her as an equal when he didn't have to, but was turned into a vegetable as thanks

!LORE AHEAD! From my point of view general Radahn is more powerful in any way, he let malenia grab her arm, he didn't kill her with a storm of meteorite and when she used scarlet rot he stood still. However we should not insult malenia because scarlet aeonia wasn't just to not lose.We Know that both malenia and miquella loved godwyn and they wanted to give him a proper death. (Golden ephitaff description). However this could occur only with the eclipse wich was blocked, first by the new order installed by the greater will(the dead no longer go in elphael but they go in the erdtree) second by Radahn who blocked the very stars. So i think we should respect malenia for sacrificing herself just to give her beloved brother a proper death.

My counter argument is that she has prosthetics, they do not hurt when damaged, and they can be disposed of, and while she is a cripple, is doesn't help that Radahn after the corruption lost both of his foots, he now has to rely on his horse to move while fighting, malenia doesn't need a portable wheelchair

I can agree that Malenia using her power makes sense, but giving her bonus points because she's a cripple doesn't make sense. The reason she's crippled is because she has the added power of scarlet rot. If we were to ask which would win if Malenia wasn't crippled, she'd have to have the scarlet rot taken away as well. Overall, Radahn holding back the stars doesn't help him in this fight at all. Malenia being crippled means she also has the power of scarlet rot. While there was no true winner, the fact that Malenia had to be dragged back while unconscious while Radahn stayed to fight off the cleanrot knights shows that Malenia would likely have eventually fallen victim to Radahn if it was a mere 1v1. But to draw conclusions from the small part of the fight we see would be a bit too ambitious. We don't know how Radahn's knights affected the fight at all, and we only know what Malenia's cleanrot knights did after the bloom.

Honestly, Radahn clearly won the fight. If the trailer was the entire fight sequence, we could see that he barely used any gravity magic save for riding on Leonard and the way he pulled out his blades. While Malenia used everything in her arsenal to win.
