As others have pointed out, this is a unique take on Sound of Silence. The original has a melancholy feel to it, a sense of loss and bleakness. The Disturbed cover communicates a person dealing with their inner demons and the demons of society at large. Malinda's cover, this is the first time I've felt hope from this song. It has the sense that the silence is beautiful and good, that the vision will germinate to become something more, that there is something new and alive bursting forth in this person's life and eventually in the lives of others.

As someone who studied music for 20 years and has listened to dozens of world-class vocalists, I have to say that you have one of the most purely angelic voices I've ever heard. You have exceptional vibrato control and your timbre is enthralling. You use melisma tastefully. You have phenomenal dynamic control of your voice and you're able to mix effortlessly. You make sure every passage is moving toward your intended direction through proper spin. Really, really excellent.

Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence"

Ooooh, that delayed chord on "neon light" (2:00) and "shared" (2:45) (and "walls" later) is such a nice touch! I don't remember it in Simon and Garfunkel's version. Ooooh! 3:36! Aaaah I love this, light in the darkness. That was me falling for tiny but so tasteful touches.

Lyrics: Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams, I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp But my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light, I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls" And whispered in the sound of silence

I am in my mid 40s, mom is 70. She told me the story of how she went on vacation and had never heart of Simon and Garfunkel. Came back 2 weeks later, and everyone was talking about them and this song was everywhere. I played this for her, she didn't say a word, just instantly repeated it. "This gives me chills. Better than the original and I never thought anyone would do that." I agreed, became a patron 30 seconds later. Your voice and Akiane Kramarik's art, y'all have Grace, gifts that are so rich and true only God could have given them. Even if I hadn't had a NDE and seen God several times, people who have gifts of this caliber would make me believe in a higher power. Thank you. This brings peace to the weary and conviction to the doubting. God bless.

Your voice is enchanting! My mom just passed away last Sat, and it seems all songs somehow some way reminds me of my mom. I can almost hear my mom singing along, while smiling. She had a good singing voice, but hers was much deeper. She too sang this song, but on karaoke. She killed it every time! Thank you for helping me remember those fond moment's.

S&G created it, and their version is immortal. Disturbed's cover is raw, emotional, sad and angry, and is amazing. Puddles Pity Party did a version that I love; he did the ending I always thought the song should have. MALINDA has created a version that is ethereal, otherworldly, like our whole listening experience might have been a dream- a dream that is truer than reality, which is exactly what I have always felt the original was going for.
