I have a European working line Dobe and he is 93 lbs. He is ok being at home by himself while I'm at work, but he is very needy in general. He wouldn't leave me alone when I'm at home. He follows me around, sits at my feet, wants to play, be petted, asks for constant interaction. Malinois is a GSD on crack cocaine. It needs a lot of activity. The only people I ever met who owned a Malinois were either in law enforcement or they were involved in protection dog sports. This type of dog is not suited for an average dog person. A Doberman can get away with just being a pet if you get an American dobe. European working lines, like my dobe, are better for active homes who do dog sports.

I was wanting to get a European Doberman as a protection/guard dog. Do you think gender would make a difference? I do have 1 small/medium male dog but he is a scaredy cat… idk if getting a female Doberman would be better for that or if male would get along with my male if I were to get them as a puppy?

Same, for cold weather get a dog coat. Also, the reason why Dobes are not as good for police and military work is because they are a one person dog. They can't be passed around between multiple handlers. They bond to one person.

Same goes for the Dobie. They are very clingy dogs and they do get separation anxiety. I have two Dobies and trust me i cant step out of my house for even a minute without them crying. I always wanted to get a Malinois i grew up with one and they are great as a guard dog and if im being honest they are smarter than Dobies.

Dobermans are faster at 32-35 mph than malinois at 30 mph, and they bite harder at 229-305 psi than a malinois at 195 psi, dobermans also are more likely to bite in rapidly, causing more damage than just biting and holding on, as far as protection, dobermans are the only breed specifically created for personal protection, the only reason they aren't used more now (emphasis on now, because they were used a lot by marines in WWII) in the military is because they lack the undercoat and do not change handlers well, a malinois at the end of the day was created as a herding dog and livestock guardian, not to protect humans, so they are not as owner focused making them harder to train and a fight for dominance, but because dobermans are very owner focused they'll actually heavily pick up on your mood as well as other things, there's a story about a lady's doberman finding a 1 in like 20 million match for a kidney that she needed, this video didn't acknowledge most of these facts

I own two American dobies. I’m by no means a dog trainer and they literally learn commands within 5 to 10 repetitions. My dobies are very well mannered and have literally never chewed on any of my furniture.. (although they do have a thing for sandals)… they are also super clingy. 😂

I have a European Doberman and she learned paw on the car ride from the breeder at 8 weeks old lol. She's 9 moths old and shows us her paw when she knows she does something naughty (usually tearing up and eating napkins). She goes for shoes, but not to chew, she just knows we'll go after her for them haha. She's so smart that she's devious lol She's my first dog. I've always had and still have cats. She LOVES cats. She doesn't have separation anxiety and isn't reactive to noise. She will bark if someone just walks in our house uninvited. She did send me to the ER at 7mos old with her brand new adult teeth. Didn't bite me, but was trying to get her fluffy bunny while we were playing and I had a long dress on and she has no spacial awareness because she grew so fast, so her tooth scraped up my shin and took 3 stitches partially close. Got a lovely scar now lol

American and European Dobermans are 2 different breeds We have had both.Europeans are way stronger working dogs with way more strength and drive.American Dobermans were bred more for show.They are both absolutely beautiful and are so loyal,protective loving and super smart.

Both are excellent breeds. I have been going back and forth at choosing which one. It’s our life styles that determine what dog to choose, and commitment to train and spend quality time with. My first choice would be the Malinois, yet for my life style I’m getting a Doberman.

@@romanbfm9633 He is more or less on a raw diet. Mornings: Blue Ridge Beef 1/4 lbs, plus some Olewo Original carrots and beats (dehydrated), one raw egg. This will be hydrated with water, coconut oil and makes a nice size bowl. Afternoon: One raw quarter leg chicken hind Plus some other supplements . But weight is not so much about food, it is about the breed. I have to admit that our dog is about 1.5 inches over standard. So he is heavier but not fat. AND NO, I not the one the put that together, it's my wife! 😁

@@Adi-S yes thank you for the information. I have two European Dobermans. I live on the east coast upstate New York. My doobies are on a raw food diet also. A.M. chicken leg quarter P.M. 1/2 lbs meat, Chickenfoot, one egg, little bit of liver, and a little bit of veggies. I try to keep it under 1 lb. So total they are eating about 2 pounds a day. They have two acres to run all day. Maybe just a little bit more exercise and I can get him under 100 lb. Thanks for your info

I’ve had a Dutch and a Belgium malinous. They are cuddly and very loving. Mine have been wonderful. I couldn’t ask for better dogs. I don’t have all this negativity that you say about the malinous. I must be very blessed and I trained them myself. I’m an old lady of 64.

They're one of the most intelligent dogs 😂😂. Imagine a nasty 90-100lb doberman fighting you. 305psi of bite force and nothing but solid muscle and stamina. One of the fastest dogs as well, besides the greyhound types etc.

The doberman is bigger in size and weight, faster 32 mph to 30mph, higher bite force of 305 vs 195. More intelligent. WW2 decorated dogs of the US Marines. The doberman was strictly bred for personal protection. The mal was bred for herding. The mals are great dogs but in this comparison, the doberman is the clear winner as a guard dog.

@@G.Nzhdeh seems like u do. Suppose im not wrong doberman weighs 60-100 pound and the belg weighs 40-80 pounds making it easier for the domberman to launch and pin down the belg. In that case, the bite force the doberman comes with a bite force of 305. In contrast, the belg comes with the bite force of 195 huge difference so in a fight the dobermna would likely do more damage now whitin energy the belg would win with higher energy rates, Speed Doberman have a speed of 35 while the belg have a speed of 30 slightly slower than the doberman, Dobermans were meant to protect so infact dobermans r better protecters. Yet, the belg is aswell not as good as the dobie, the reason they have belg in police work is BCS police were trying find a dog that's not too powerful. Still, just the right amount of power and also agility so this is why u see more belg in police work than any other dog, both breeds are great! we shall not fight over their strength tho.

A pit bull dog has the weakest bite force but it is capable of fight happened to bit many other breeds and Doberman included. So your theory won’t make sense. Many people think the way you think and the reality is different. But again no fight is acceptable between dogs. Malinois is much more agile and the character of malinois is never back up, they fight until the end.

I'm more into a doberman tbh since I had this breed my entire life but a malinois is as smart as a doberman and easier to train cz they focus more on it, while on the other hand doberman are very high protective dogs they also easy to train but they always on alert which make it a slightly more harder to train then a malinois, but any day any time I'd pick a dobey always lol

I only always had doberman, but I admire Malinois as well. This is not a good comparison as it takes some common assumptions of each dog. Dogs are very much what you make out of them. I would admit that a Malinois is more agile than a Doberman. That might be due to the size and weight difference. Many people in this thread say a doberman is the fastest dog after a greyhound. I have to strongly disagree. I don't know for a fact, but I could see a Malinois outrun a Doberman, especially on a short sprint. Both are impressive dogs!

I have an American Doberman girl, got her from an older woman who ended up with an injury and couldn't keep her. She's a great dog, she's huge and completely unaltered, like no cosmetic looks. Shes such a happy go lucky kind of dog, so when her tail wags it knocks everything down, and to be hit by it.. Ouch! I've also got a shepsky and an Alaskan Husky. All my pups are equally as loyal and even protective. I might be adopting a Belgian Malinois soon, either him or an American bully puppy, the potential family for each is still deciding so whenever I get the word for either I'll take one, more likely gonna be the Malinois. Either way I can't wait!

Dobermans are very 1 owner type group. Belgion is more team like. But as 4 guard. I think a Doberman is best. The ears on a Dobey help it to hear better. Too many back yard breeders are killing the Doberman.

Malinois excel in some areas but personal guard dog belongs to the Doberman. Backyard breeding is why the American Doberman has many health issues and this has been going on since the 1950's.

I've owned a Malinois, have helped a neighbour breed & sell Doberman puppies. A doberman is a formidable dog, however I'd rather own 3 Malinois instead of 3 Dobermans. In my opinion Dobermans are much more of a pack animal. A single Malinois can operate alone & bonds better to a single owner.

I 100% could not disagree more. Although both dogs are great. I truly believe that the Doberman beats the Malinois in every Aspect except energy and coat. Dobermans are not pack oriented animals. Literally every dog will be a pack animal if there’s a pack of dogs… Dobermans are easier to train and way more loving to there owners. What more do you want from your dog. Once again I have to clarify Belgiums are great but if you want a truly versatile dog, one you can have in every environment (except cold) the Doberman takes the cake.

If I lived in a cold climate and wanted a outdoor dog that came into the house occasionally, the Malinois would be my choice. But I live in hot climate and want a dog to be my companion therefore inside my house. For me the Doberman is far superior.

No offense but Dobermans are so far much superior than the other breed . Dobermans are majestic powerful, loyal, guarding, protective and velcro dogs to their owners. I have been blessed with a "cream the la cream" , European Doberman, 160 pounds of muscle, fat and teeth. He is my guard angel, he will do damage when he plays with me, I don't care..... I just loving him to death. The other breed doesn't have the majestic looks and power as a Doberman, it just looks like a mutt. My Aquilles is SUBERB. Purebred European Doberman, fantastic , gorgeous and powerful..

Love both but Malinois is better all around if you have a nice yard and time to actually train it and play with it. I love both though.

Being an ex-owner of both breeds, I prefer my Dobbie hands down just because he was super intelligent and easy to train. My malinois I actually had to send him to the Monks of New Skeet because I wasn’t good enough to train the Mal on my own. -Mostly my fault. Also, the Dobe was super great with kids. My Mali, not so much. We actually had to put him in a different room when we had guests over which was a constant PITA.

You're exactly right about the climate and since I choose to live in a temperate climate I always choose the Doberman ❤❤❤❤❤😂🎉😅😊

True. a doberman doesn't do well to a change in handlers so they stopped being used in the military. the doberman also has a bit slower reaction to a command as it likes to think a command through before following trough making them unfavored by the police.

​@@nithqueentrue what u said only reason doberman being replace the weather doesn't help, and 2nd its not that they don't listen directly they are too much owner protective which make them always on alert mode so the commend they take it takes them 1-2 sec before doing it just cz of observing around, another thing of being replaced is that an American dobey is more as a show line, on the other hand a European doberman is very high energetic, full of power and strength and highly intelligent and protective which makes them the best dog breeds for protection, I know many big dogs can do protection well but there's a diff between a dog that will rip someone apart and not listen ur command to stop, while a dobey will once u command him with the right training ofcourse

My favorite Doberman... But live 10-13? My lived 17... And in one situation I was attacked by a two dogs 80 meters from house when I back from school he sees that from the yard and in 5 secoend he was there attack them protecting me...

If you want malinois you need 3 things high fenced yard 10x10 , chain and time... Everybody got chain ,many people got yard but U need time... If U have all 3 thigs that is the best dog 4 U...

I prefer malinois… my malinois was my shadow.. so affectionate and playful… but energy on high alert lol .. very attached… also easier to train.. but dobies are real softies.. but bigger but prone to one owner ..

Anyone who’s saying Doberman doesn’t have a clue about the malinois, Doberman may be used as close protection guard dogs but malinois work for the special forces British SAS and US navy seals. They’re harder to handle but are far more superior as an overall breed.

I’ll take my two East German working line GSD’s any any day. I love Mals too and when properly trained, I have seen them be good family dogs that have been taught to have an off switch but like someone else mentioned, they’re like GSD’s on crack and are not the best option for a family pet. where my GSD is certainly need a job my older one spent the first two years of his life in intense training and we still regularly train and follow up. My other one is just a 12 week old puppy so we’re just beginning they will cuddle up and they do have an off switch when trained properly so they do make a great family pet and mine are not bothered by my kids, friends or people that come and go from the house because they have been properly trained and socialized. I’m not a big Doberman fan, but a friend of mine used to have one and they loved him very much, and he always seemed well behaved, until unfortunately, he passed away 😢.

I have a mostly Malinois & he’s put me to hell & back! In fact, I almost sued one of my neighbors because of her harassment! But Mals are not for the faint of heart.

I have a 37kg security line mali and he is an absolute machine. The mali is not an easy dog to own - requires serious work/stimulation. Owners need eyes on the back of their head - relaxing walks with my Labrador are gone. They require experienced handlers and cant be left all day. The most affectionate dog ive ever owned but 95% of the population should not own one. This isnt a 9-5 family dog. The mali needs forced to stop - they wont stop when tired. However, the physical and mental ability of these dogs are wild - most have seen nothing like it. You buy a malinois - expect a life changing experience.
