You know, I was worried about my psych meds (amphetamines) would hurt the baby during pregnancy. My baby stopped moving around 35 weeks and had to be removed via emergency C-section and due to the guilt imposed upon me by so many people who I told I was on medication, I was terrified I had ruined everything. Turns out, they tested the baby (who survived and is doing well six months later!) and my placenta and much to my surprise, NEITHER tested positive for amphetamines! And he was the right size for his gestational age. I really wish people wouldn't shame pregnant women for doing things like taking medications that are necessary to remain mentally healthy enough to be safe during pregnancy. You can't know that it's going to hurt the baby or not. Don't feel shame if you need help during pregnancy and don't let people make you feel bad about it. Obviously you need to take it as prescribed and be monitored throughout the pregnancy, but again, don't let people guilt you about taking care of your mental health.
@Umtata64 Жыл бұрын
People talk about how it's SO RISKY but there's not really enough data out there to back that up, and there are real risks to the pregnant person and the developing baby to the person stopping their stimulant medication. I've been really lucky to be supported by my GP, my midwife, my psychiatrist and the public obstetric team that my midwife consulted who all supported me staying on concerta through pregnancy and breastfeeding. My boy was a week overdue and is a delightful happy healthy 5 month old now, sitting around the 80th centile for weight.

Thanks for the comment about HG. I had HG, I lost 30lbs, couldn't keep water down, spent weeks hooked up to an IV and baby boy was absolutely chillin in there. Doctors and nurses were constantly reassuring me that even if I was barely surviving, baby could be thriving.
@frickfrack7075 Жыл бұрын
I am at 12 weeks, finally, and I've had dry HG . Where I'm extremely nauseous but don't vomit. I lost about 10lbs the first 8 weeks, until I was put on 3 meds to help. I didn't lose anymore weight, but I have yet to gain any. I have been feeling so weak and awful for so long. However, I have noticed that I'm feeling less intense nausea. I have no appetite, and still feel pretty weak, but I'm happy to feel better a few days out of the week. I'm hoping as the weeks go on, I'll continue to feel more and more better. I've had 2 other children, and neither of those pregnancies affected me like this one. Both of those were boys, so everyone thinks this one will be a girl. I hope! The guilt you feel, or at least that I have felt, for not getting the proper nutrition has been weighing on me so much. I haven't been able to take my prenatal either which has also deeply affected me. Being so ill all of the day every day has weighed immensely on my mental health and has been incredibly isolating. My husband has been very helpful , and I'm very appreciative. But, it's still isolating when it's only you experiencing it. There's an OB shortage here in the US right now and my area has been greatly affected. So, I'm having to see my GP for ob care until I can get into an OB office in October. (Which I'll have to travel over an hour to) Luckily for me, my GP "caught babies" as an obgyn for 30 years before becoming a GP. So he's knowledgeable and helpful where it's needed. He also explained that I wasn't harming the baby, and he was more concerned with my health. He told me that not taking the prenatal right now wasn't a big deal right now, and to just ingest whatever I could tolerate. I'm so thankful for his words, because the guilt can be so heavy.
@frickfrack7075 Жыл бұрын
Also, most ob offices, at least in my area (in a 2 hour radius) will not accept any patients until they're at least 12 weeks. Forcing everyone to see a GP for ob care until they're 12 week mark. Due to the shortages, most find it hard to even get into an office by 12 weeks, and are going over half their pregnancy before getting ob care. Some, in my area *most*, offices are even refusing to take on any new patients because of the overload of patients being funneled into these few offices. For instance, in my area of West Tennessee, we've had probably a dozen offices close. Forcing everyone to travel 1 1/2 -2 hours to visit an obgyn. I got lucky, and the day I scheduled my appt with the OB they had a cancellation in October. Otherwise it was going to be late November before I could be seen. That would've put me well over half my pregnancy before being seen. I've been told that several other offices have stopped taking new patients. Funneling all pregnancies into one or two offices. It's so insane. I'm also high risk, and the office I'm going to be seen at is a high risk ob. So that's troubling considering how long you have to wait to be seen and their work load.

@@frickfrack7075, I'm so sorry you are going through this. It is just awful that the legislators don't know what women face and the hardships caused by their ignorance. When I was pregnant with my first, there was a very high malpractice insurance crisis and local OBGYNs weren't taking new patients. Women had to travel across counties to get care until the legislature allowed doctors to practice without insurance as long as they posted that. Good luck with your baby and I hope you feel better soon. The work you are doing to build a human is so taxing and not really appreciated by society the way it ought to be. You are a warrior for humanity and I stand in solidarity with you.
@frickfrack7075 Жыл бұрын
@@j.n.sloane man I really appreciate all those kind words! It's a very real shame what they're willing to do without, for money. Especially given the fact that they've made abortion illegal, so what are women supposed to do when they can't even get proper ob care. It's really ass backwards. We're speaking to our state rep, but this is a nationwide issue so there's not much we can do at the moment but hope for the best. It's very dangerous, risky, to have pregnant women traveling over an hour away to deliver their baby. This is my third child, once I go into labor, it will progress quickly. Luckily, I've only had c sections, and plan to this time as well, but that doesn't mean that I won't go into labor before a scheduled c section. It's incredibly dangerous to leave that up to risk, given how far we have to travel to deliver. I can't imagine how much scarier it must be for anyone risking an unplanned labor and delivery.

I have no words. I’d be interested to know how accurate some of the eastenders baby storylines are - the current ones are surrounding Whitney Dean and Lily slater. Sonia also had a cryptic pregnancy about 20 years ago.

Since you like bad puns, MDJ... What's the difference between an OB/GYN joke and a dad joke? It's all in the delivery.

I’m disappointed they left out the mom delivering the placenta

Not gonna lie, I was afraid that second button on the remote was gonna shoot the placenta out. Okay, here's hoping I don't have nightmares about Beulah's eyes... 😂

I’m glad that they depicted the vagina opening wide for the baby to come out. Many videos just say that the baby comes out. Kids asks “from where? Her belly button?”

hi doc, as a teen I am curious about sex and stuff and the country I come from is really conservative about such topics and its changing but there's a long way before that, anyway schools don't have sex ed classes ever and parents are very awkward and shy away from these conversations, even period is a taboo here and generally we are not taken to gynaecologists to help us understand this stuff, so it would be very helpful to get that understanding about sexual activities, diseases etc. from a trusted doctor so that a lot of people like me are not completely clueless as we involve in sexual activities and stuff. thanks :)))

Ok I'm old so I didn't experience these videos ever. I was in elementary in the 1970s and middle/ high school in the 1980s. We had old reel-to-reel vids of 60s kids and a Joan Baez-like singer performing a song by Shel Silverstein (Don't Give a Dose to the One You Love Most). This is amazing and also a terrible disservice to EmmyLou Harris and Stevie Nicks. ETA: AWW man. I thought button 2 would be the placenta. That totally needs to be known.

The best depiction I’ve seen of thinning vs dilation is the ping pong ball in the balloon thing

imagine having a 3D ultrasound done of your baby and the facial expression at 2:11 is what you see on the screen. 😂

Graduated in 2016 (in the south) and Mama Dr Jones is the only reason I know anything other than Vagina and penis. School taught us dont have sex or you'll get pregnant and die or wait until marriage which made a LOT of girls get married too early. Im pregnant now and Mama Dr Jones videos have made me so knowledgeable and less scared to go through labor.

I am so grateful that my sex ed classes were much more detailed and didn’t rely on videos like this! 🤷🏼♀️

Ugh yes with the gestational age. I knew exactly when I got pregnant (ovulation testing) and the nurse doing my intake was gonig off my last period and ignored me when I said "but I'll be a week behind that, i ovulated on day 21, not the default day 14". She entered it based on the usual and sure enough, when I got a dating ultrasound, I was right where I said I'd be.

In my health class, in the late 80's, we were told if there was no consent then the fetus will abort on it's own!!!

It's horrifying that anyone would say that. I'm pretty sure a lot of Republicans believe it though, based on things they've said publicly.
