Let me add the context a bit. The security guy asked all of the women if they've obtained their husband permission to attend the show. So, basically, only an unmarried/single woman a.k.a "PERAWAN" can go without husband's permission, because, ta-da, they don't even have one. But, some people prefer, a single woman has to have permission from their parent or guardian to travel, but that's for another issue. Understanding a virgin as someone with "sexual purity" is a bit misleading here. However, if you follow the Oxford dictionary, a virgin can also mean as young unmarried women (an archaic term). If that's the case, then it's a more proper one.

"is there anyone still virgin in here?" but she didn't get it. (maybe because she's just city girl). the real meaning is "is there anyone in here unmarried yet?" This is categorized as a question that contains jokes because those who are asked are old mothers. everyone who answered this with "Yes" will contain double meaning, and seems impossible. this is another joke "My Grandma is still a virgin" and yes it is an impossible statement. and we use that as a jokes. but still can be used if the intended meaning is already a widow. but also unacceptable because he uses the word virgin. that's why that type of question is categorized as a joke.

Now, THIS is a good interview. When you cast a reporter who understands the culture and can relate to it on a personal level, you get a thoughtful, respectful, and inclusive documentary (or mini-documentary in this case, I guess?) With all due respect, some reporters tackle issues with a judgemental approach and end up missing the point when it comes to explaining a foreign culture or values that don't align with theirs. I'm not saying that reporters should agree with every single aspect of the country/culture/movement they're covering, they're humans with opinions after all. However, they still should strive to be as unbiased as possible, be ready to challenge their own views, and cover the topic with a holistic approach.

I like Mamah Dedeh. I really appreciated when she said that her father told her there’s no such thing as a women’s job or a man’s job. She’s pretty much saying that male and female gender roles are stupid and non-existent, which is so hard for Muslims around the world to understand because of some of our ridiculous cultures. Male or female, we equal in the eyes of God and only God is the judge of how good of a person we are.

@@AntonNb Excuse me, persecuting?! I am afraid you're misinformed. All Hindu and Muslim brothers bond well together, infact my mother is Hindu and her best friend is muslim and they bond well together and celebrate all festivals. Idk if Indian Muslim's are the happiest but most of us approach them with well wishes and we don't have any problem with each other. There are both mosques and temples and a muslim can go to a temple and a hindu can go to a temple. And, I think you're wrong because India is the biggest religious diversity and almost all the major religions started in India.

There is misunderstanding here. The "Virgin" in Indonesia does not mean "the real virgin" as people think of. "Virgin" in Indonesia more likely to identification "Unmarried" or "Married". Its not just for women, its for men as well here. "Are you still virgin, boy?" it means "are you married or not yet?" "How long you keep your virgin, girl?" It means "When are you getting married?

as an Indonesian muslim, i wish this is how the world sees islam. Islam in Indonesia is far more moderate and tolerant. We hold on value like men and women are equal, there are even more women staffs in a company (altho most high position still men). it's such a shame the world only focus on Arabs.

Indonesia is one if not the most peaceful country, based on the diversity, ethnicity and religion of its massive population. All stand up in unity. Indonesia had most muslim populity but use Hindu legend as Its symbol, the biggest Mosque is placed right side by side by the Cathedral. Yes every country had a problem or conflict, even the safest one. But looking at massive population of different ethnicity and religion living peacefully in Indonesia is mesmerizing. Man i love Indonesia

Mama Dedeh in the Philippines is literally Mother's Boobs/Bosom. Or if it's informal it could be a child saying Mama, I want to drink milk.

I remember a few years ago when Mamah Dedeh visited my school for a preach. I actually forgot what was the topic of the preach lol. And by the way, the preach was not just attended by students, there were also many people (mostly women) that attended the preach, some of them were the people that came far away from my school.
