This was the beginning of Solar's relationship with the dance pole. Shortly after this, she did another pole routine, dressed as a harem girl, at an awards show. She also incorporated it into her solo stage for concerts in a cover of Despacito. That one has to be seen to be believed. Not too long ago, she did a duo dance with her pole dance instructor. It's on her Solarsido page. This one is an incredible combination of sensual, beautiful, and empoweringly impressive (at one point, the instructor is holding Solar up with one arm).

"Solar being the craziest visual" As a straight man I think for pure sexiness the two contenders are Solar and Hwasa. They each have a different style and I have some difficulty labeling the difference. The closest I can come is Solar is more inviting where as Hwasa is more challenging. Personally Solar is my preference. She has been my bias since the first moment I saw the group. It was in the One Million dance practice video for Gogobebe and when I was watching it I did not even know it was the actual group rather than a bunch of students. My eyes just locked on Solar and it's been that way ever since.

It was actually the song “you’re the best” that caused the mamamoo visual explosion. That’s when they got their first win and became profitable for the company. They were basically a side project of their company for the longest time (RBW makes it bread and butter on production for other companies- the CEO Do-hoon is an industry-wide renowned, credited and respected producer- that’s how mamamoo initially had so many connections, like immortal songs appearances and having Bumkey and other features on their predebut). But yes Decalcomanie was the first video where the production took a step up.

believe it or not, this is the first of only two songs where mamamoo did not do their usual goofing around during the official dance practice. and it really threw moomoos off when it was uploaded. "wait, who is this and what did they do to mamamoo? where's the silliness? they're too serious" for the mvs, i know all of the 4 seasons mvs were done by zany bros (whose ceos are good friends with one of rbw's ceos, but i think i mentioned that in your most recent alexa video). going back to look at zb's list of mvs, it looks like their first mvs for mamamoo were in 2016, which included "decalcomanie" and "new york" (the other three songs for this year are interesting in that the official mvs for them are all actual footage from one of mamamoo's concerts. "angel" and "dab dab" (the only two subunit songs from the group, "angel" is solar/wheein, "dab dab" is moonbyul/hwasa) and "i love too"/"tears") so... it does look like using zany bros is at least part of why the mv game stepped up... though at the same time, a lot of fans are kind of tired of the zb videos since so many of them are basically just shot in warehouses, "starry night" being a huge exception and something people want to see more of... outdoor shots and such. or even actual storyline looks like they've pretty much been doing all the rbw artist mvs since then, including mamamoo member solo work, with the exception of hwasa's "maria" and "lmm" last year (they did do "twit", though). oh, i'm also only seeing "can we talk again" for purple kiss, so they weren't involved in "my heart skip a beat" ...i know the last bits weren't needed but got curious and dug into it for some aspects of the video: no, the jaguar wasn't actually there with hwasa, it was cgi. and the fire, though it was touched up with cgi, was real. the girls talked about how hot it was dancing among those fire pits and how the insides of their noses were full of soot for a while afterwards and you're right, they're not really closely tied to the colors associated with them through the project but one of the best things from that project was the members getting those official colors. because of that, ever since then, subtitlers have been using those colors to denote which member is speaking when which is so, so much better than what we used to get previous to that, where each individual or group of subbers would just pick whatever colors they wanted (or everything would be the same color) as for solar's pole-dancing, "egotistic" was when she actually started it, with a 1 hour practice before they started filming the mv, so she doesn't really do a lot here but really gets into it afterwards, multiple stages involving the pole at their concerts, year end award shows, on her yt channel and more, even hosting a pole-dancing seminar of sorts on a show called 'my little television' (she had two pole-dancing instructors, one male, one female, a young pole-dancing expert who already performed with a national team and a younger fellow kpop idol who wanted to learn all in her segment of that show with her) back in late 2017 or early 2018 (before "starry night"), solar had hurt her back pretty badly and had to be hospitalized for a while (she wrote a song about loneliness during that time, though it hasn't been released yet and may not be, since the instrumentation for it was used in one of the group's more recent songs). the story goes that while she was recovering a doctor suggested she take up pole-dancing as a way to strengthen her back and core body and, solar being solar, just dove head-long into it like she does with anything she tries

You need a thought balloon for Banjo saying "What, who, me?! What did I do?" I'll spare you the Egotistic TED Talk and just answer some of your questions. This is the beginning of Solar & pole dancing. She wasn't actually supposed to use the pole but (Solar being Solar) she arranged for a 1 hr lesson the day before the video shoot and really liked it. She was also advised that it would build core strength and help counteract the effects of a back injury from a car accident. Her first real pole dance came during 2018's 4 Seasons S/S concerts when she did a cover of Despacito in her solo set. There is no MV for her solo song Hello on the Fall/Blue album Blue;S so all we've got is the Solarsido vid of the double pole dance set to Hello that she did with her teacher. Correct - the jaguar was CGI. The members aren't tied to a representative color visually. The colors represent emotions and stages in a relationship. Red is the color of passion in the 4S4C color scheme. In the title track MVs each member expresses a different aspect of the song's theme via her own personal take that season's emotional color palette. So to Hwasa red/passion means wild & fierce, hence the jaguar. Edit: just noticed the comment about Chung Ha's Play. I assume you know that song came out two years later. It's an ok song that uses the latin groove to express desire in the typical way latin is used in kpop. Egotistic combines flamenco, reggaeton and latin pop to convey a much more complex story and range of emotions so the only similarity is the general latin category.

still sad we never got an official mv for "hello". thought the same was happening with "25" then suddenly got the pws video for it, so now the lack of mv for solar's four seasons solo really stands out... (as for the colors, i've said it before and i'll say it again. i'm exceptionally glad subbers have taken to using those specific colors to denote who's talking when ever since the project started. it's made things so much easier for non-korean speakers all around)

I believe Solar initially learned how to pole dance for this MV first. If I remember correctly, during the MV behind the scenes videos, she mentioned only learning it for a few hours the day before. I think she continued afterwards and incorporated pole dancing in to some of her other performances.

Yeah, I had a feeling you wouldn't be the biggest fan of this song, but I do think it'll grow on you a lot. It's too catchy not to haha. Banjo is adorable by the way, so I definitely don't mind his interruptions. My heart melted when he looked directly at the camera, he's too cute 😂 And this is actually the first time Solar pole dances in an MV, but she also made a great pole dancing video on her KZbin channel for her solo track from this project called Hello. She learned pole dancing specifically for the Egotistic MV, but she decided to keep it up since she really enjoyed it and it also helped with some back problems that she struggles with. I totally agree about Solar being the craziest visual by the way, I can clearly remember watching the Starry Night MV for the first time and just being completely struck by her.
